They aren't that hard to draw. Other characters have wrist mounted weapons. (Including Black Widow). What they do do is interfere with the flow of the costume.The only reason they weren't that way in the comics was that it was easier to draw, which isn't an issue in live action.

If they wanted the shooter on the outside of the costume, Ditko would have put them there. I'm willing to bet the costume came first and the mechanics of the web-shooters later. (In real world development)I didn't say they were hard to draw, I said it was easier not to. There's a difference. It's not like there are only two difficulty settings in life.
