Marvel Animation’s X-Men ‘97 Discussion Thread.

I know he's (rightfully) looked down on now because of how he is IRL, but one of the things people praised about Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men run is that it got rid of the Quitely/Morrison suits and put the X-Men back in more traditional superhero attire. That Astonishing X-Men run in general was actually pretty good, it introduced the "mutant cure" stuff that would be partially taken for X-Men 3, it introduced Abigail Brand (one of my favorite X-Men supporting characters) and even the variation on Wolverine's costume introduced in Astonishing has pretty much remained the basis for most of his costumes since then (even in Deadpool & Wolverine the Wolverine costume they use is basically the Astonishing suit with sleeves and "movie superhero costume" material).
 
I thought the Quitely suits were long gone by the time Whedon started writing Astonishing.

Nope, the suits stayed throughout the whole Morrison run. The Astonishing run technically picks up right after Morrison's X-Men run had finished, although the first issue was published a few months after the last issue of Morrison's (the Morrison run run ended March 2004, Whedon's started July 2004). I think that Astonishing is counted as the continuation because it was basically the "core" X-Men title that set the general status quo that the other X-books revolved around, just like Morrison's had done. The first issue of Astonishing, from what I remember, even specifically mentions them dropping their matching uniforms and specifically going back to a more superhero look.
 
I hate the Quitely Emma Frost so much.

But I didn't mind the Quitely-esque uniforms in X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

Yes, that's right, although they're in civilian attire throughout the first issue until the new costumes debut at the end.
 
What an idiot.

Given that he doesn't seem to have endeared himself to people on this series or any of his previous jobs either people will be lining up to spill the beans now.
 
IF DeMayo did do a bunch of inappropriate [edit: slash illegal] stuff, it seems like a very bad idea to keep poking at Disney like this. It's hard to see it working out well for him in the long run.

Absolutely, but the same kind of personality flaw that lead him to think he could act with impunity in the workplace would probably also make him think he can do whatever he wants now that he's been fired and just skate by without any consequences.

Celebrity showrunners have a role as spokesperson and mascot for their productions, so it can sometimes be hard to see if they're crossing the line into narcissism and credit-hogging. In hindsight, DeMayo does seem to be well over into the latter half, believing he's indispensable and the rest of the team were just tools he used to express his own genius and not, well, a team.
 
While New Rockstars had refrained from commenting on the Beau DeMayo situation before this point, they clearly have been following the situation closely. This video was posted, as I'm posting this, less than 20 minutes ago and it includes breaking news from The InSnyder that hit literally moments before they were going to record and they were able to give full context to the report. This is actually an excellent bit of responsible investigative reporting, which goes to show how closely they've been following the story without commenting on it.

With no details being given by Marvel and Disney (most likely to not put the victims in danger of being exposed by internet detectives) DeMayo was in a great position, despite obviously something going on the lack of details combined with how beloved the show is meant he could have sat it out.
But he couldn't keep his trap shut, forcing Disney/Marvel to make a statement in their defense which opened the floodgates and now he pretends to be the victim

All of this is pretty much confirmed in the New Rockstars report, which include some alleged details of the scandal that Jeff Snyder reported on this morning, with New Rockstars saying that they have heard rumors that line up with these reports. According to Snyder, De Mayo was allegedly sending nude pics of himself in superhero poses (for inspiration) to young male staffers and continued to do so even after being asked to stop. Textbook sexual harassment.

Gee, I think that might have had more to do with his being fired than the fan art he did.
If these accusations are true, and it sounds like they probably are, then I think it's a mistake for him to try to fight it. All that's going to do is just force Disney to release more information and there's no way that's going to end well for him.
 
He seems like the type of guy who doesn't know how to quit when he's behind. He calls it a "smear campaign", but the only reason Marvel ever said anything about what happened in the first place is because he didn't know when to shut up in the first place. If what's being said is true, then evidence of his misconduct would be on the cell phones of his coworkers. I would hate to be on that jury because I wouldn't want to see that evidence.
 
Yeah, it will be interesting to see which side of this produces the most evidence of their claims first.
