So about that "Siancong War" retconning the military career histories of everyone from Xavier and Marko to Richards, Grimm and Stark to Castle?

Its not hard, its obnoxious. Its also completely pointless in Hickman's case. There is a reason comic books dropped text stories. At least Alan Moore was a good writer, so I'd put up with him putting random text pages into books. Hickman is just spouting more pointless bullshit.

First off, if they were really pointless, you could just skip them. They'd be a win-win situation for everyone, since people who like them would get to read them and people who don't can just move on to the next page the same way they do for ads. I myself skip the recap page of most comics (the notable exception being Kieron Gillen's stuff, where he turns being economical yet still clever into a fascinating art all its own.)

They *aren't* pointless, though. Whether you find their contributions boring or not is opinion, but that they do contribute to the story is undeniable fact.

Also, hickman's writing is too incoherent to make the X-Men a "flagship" book.

He's already turned it into a flagship book.

I loved the reams of 'additional material' in Watchmen and purchased the annotated guides to League of Extraordinary Gentlemen too.

The history of Marvel Earth has been retconed to now include the fictional "Sin-Cong conflict", a fictional war designed to float along with Marvel's sliding time scale in order to accommodate the military service of characters like Frank Castle and James Rhodes, who served in Vietnam originally, and Reed Richards and Ben Grimm who served in World War II originally.

I highly doubt Waid's the one doing the heavy lifting on the research in this series. He's incredibly knowledgeable about the classic stuff but doesn't really keep up much with modern stuff.

Yes, Ben's USMC history was established as far back as FF v.1 # 11.

One thing that came to my mind last night: Karma AKA Xi'an Coy Manh. Her own backstory was originally tied to the fall of South Vietnam and she was introduced at age 16, I believe, in Marvel Team-Up v.1 # 100. She and her family could probably hold onto their ancestry as Vietnamese, but 1975 is too far in the past for the Modern Age of Marvels to allow her to have been born prior to that point now. Will Marvel tie her family's backstory to Siancong/Sin-Cong or to Madripoor at this point?

They are going to be introducing a new original team of Asian heroes called The Warriors of the Sky in the Marvel Future Fight mobile game.
The other original new characters that they have introduced in the game, like Luna Snow, and Crescent & IO, have all been incorporated into the comics, so I'm assuming this new group probably will be too at some point.

I accidentally came across news that Issue #18 will be the last for Iron Man. Was it not doing well? I'm of mixed feelings about the book myself and have definitely not been enjoying it as much as the Bendis run.

Probably just a creative team change. Canceling and renewing books has very little to do with sales these days.

That drives me nuts. I wish they had kept the old numbering in place when they were on their whole legacy kick.

Doesn't Marvel include both the new number and the legacy number on their comics these days?

Yes, but I just prefer the original numbering. I started reading Amazing Spider-Man in the 200s and seeing the issue numbers creep higher and higher was a lot of fun.
