It had to be replaced at the studio's expense and they both lost their jobs.

The Klingon forehead appliances were made using molded chocolate, which melted under studio lighting. Michael Dorn often found himself distracted during the filming of TNG, as he could not wait for each scene to end so he could lick up the drippings.

Actually, the idea of the Klingon ridged head was originally inspired by the look of the spiny terrapin:

They had originally intended Worf to have the ability of withdrawing his head down in between his shoulders, but the special effects proved too costly and difficult.

They were going to have Worf mention that he was going to apply to University of Maryland before going with Starfleet Academy. Then someone pointed out he'd look too much like the mascot.

It's well known that Sean Connery was the original choice to play Sybok in Star Trek V. It's less well known that Roger Moore was going to play Soran in Star Trek Generations.

In the Star Trek universe, Ewoks were supposed to exist as small but very powerful creatures to be reckoned with. In this scene that was ultimately cut, an Ewok puts Worf out cold. Lucasfilms threatened a trademark lawsuit, so the Ewok idea was abandoned.

FACT: Recycling footage of "The Cage" in the episode "The Menagerie" was actually a last minute cover for a failed attempt on the part of Roddenberry to actually tie the Forbidden Planet narrative into the Star Trek backstory.

The original episode, which only made it to script stage, Kirk and Commodore Mendoza pursue Spock to a planet in the Altair system that was formerly the home of the Krell. Off-limits now for nearly a century, Spock was drawn to the rubble of Altair IV when he began studying the reports of the rescue ship, the C-57D, of a century before. The plan was ultimately scrapped on two accounts.

Gene Coon wanted Anne Francis to reprise her role as Altaria, but Francis declined. Coon briefly considered other bit-players from the film, but ultimately, the failure of MGM to grant the rights to use the footage from the original film (to have been used in Francis' or someone else's flashbacks) killed the project.

Rushing for a filler, Coon asked Roddenberry about using "The Cage", which Roddenberry had wanted to hold back as a 'film of the week' possibility. He relented, the adaptations were made, and the show went forward as we eventually saw on TV.

Given that the Galaxy Class starships were so named because they were the first class of Federation starship that could in theory explore the entire galaxy by themselves, the first wave of Galaxy Class starships were each named after a galactic arm - one that they could each be charged with exploring. The USS Perseus, Sagittarius, Orion, Centaurus, etc.

The second wave was named for political reasons...a new Enterprise...a ship named for Ambassador Yamato who forged lasting peace with the Klingons after Narendra III...etc

The third wave was named for great endeavors...the USS Odyssey, the USS Venture...the Expedition, the...um...Endeavor

Unfortunately, the scenes were never aired due to Scott Backula not being able to concentrate during filming which made the quality shots poor. Plans for an upcoming Star Trek musical have been canceled.

It was to include 20 major cast members from various Trek series, and was projected to cost at least 35 million dollars to produce.

Sources say backstage bickering was the cause, as one unnamed cast member demanded a dressing room with 2 bathrooms and an automatic shampoo dispenser as part of the deal.

Some cast members showed up even though they were not slated to star in the musical.

One important cast member reportedly insisted on a record deal in which the music was described as 'adult temporary classical jazz fusion with hip/hop overtones'.

Another demanded a 60 minute solo performance with all the other cast members at least '115 feet' away from the stage.

One cast member refused to wear the special effects makeup, and yet wanted to be known by his or her's character name onstage.

After a heated, 'My Trek is way better than yours' argument between several cast members occurred, Paramount said 'forget it', and went with "Glee".
