About the Umps:

I think part of the problem is there are a lot of newbies.

While I've never been a MLB umpire aficionado or anything, I do try to stay current. Lately, I've been seeing a lot of guys whose names I just don't recognize.

I was watching a game last week and the HP ump had one of the most inconsistent strike zones I've ever seen. He wasn't prejudicing one team over the other, or anything, but pitches that were balls in the 3rd were strikes in the 6th and vise versa. And wouldn't you know, I'd never heard of the guy.

Jamie Moyer had the same number of hits as the entire Marlins team tonight. It's good to see that he still owns the Fish.

Tichenor, I'm talking to you. That guy's ejection-happy.

As for Pedro, I see his injury-prone self as a potential peek into Dice-K's future. Brilliant short career, then sputtering out.

Personally, I don't mind no instant replay and I realize the possibility that umps can get calls wrong. But I do wish they were less dicks about it and stopped arguing with managers (and tossing them in most cases) without once listening to the other side of the story.

Well, the rulebook states that you can't argue balls and strikes, and that's what most of the guys are doing when they go out to argue.

Two things. What can you argue and why can't you argue balls and strikes? It seems that an ump should take into consideration that he could be wrong.

Besides, usually I see big arguments erupting over whether or not someone was safe or out, not balls and strikes.

OH THE LONG NATIONAL NIGHTMARE IS OVER!!!!

GOOD FUCKING BYE JULIO LUGO!!!

"...and there was much rejoicing..."

Apparently you're not supposed to argue anything. I think they might be granting replays just to placate some managers now, but a manager isn't supposed to run onto the field and argue anything. Umpires probably change their calls .0000000001% of the time, so it's usually just a tactic to get the team fired up.

Well, that's my complaint. Umpires shouldn't be such dicks and should actually listen to reason. If you added up every call an umpire has blown, it would probably shock people. Especially calls they blow and then they toss the manager. I don't care about instant replay and 100% accuracy, I just want umpires to acknowledge they can screw up calls.

Successful return to the majors for Clay Buchholz. Very nice outing tonight against the Blue Jays in a 4-1 Sox win.

Extremely solid outing. And seeing Bard regularly hit 99 mph wasn't too shabby, either.

I'm hoping the Sox can get some money for Lugo and use it to pay Jason Bay. I can't see them not reaching a deal with Bay, as there's no way he can cost them more than Manny.

Damn that was a tough loss. Lincecum pitched well, but the Offense was nowhere to be seen. Oh well. Don't really understand why the Giants have a hard time at PNC Park, but that's the way the game goes sometimes.
