Major League Baseball 2009

Well, the Jays outhit the Sox 30-28 over the three games... but they couldn't buy a clutch hit.

The Twins sure broke out of their funk in a big way- beat the ChiSox 20-1!

Interleague play starts this weekend. I like the interleague games, but I wish they didn't always have the same AL teams playing the same NL teams. I realize what they're going for, but playing Milwaukee every year is getting a bit old. I'd rather see some different teams for a change.

Phillies are coming off of a very good week. So close to sweeping the Yankees; it's a shame Lidge blew it.

On Saturday after John Mayberry Jr. hit his first HR FOX showed his Dad's reaction...only it turns out the guy they showed wasn't actually his Dad. Oops.

It was nice seeing Youk denied a HR after instant replay but then going ahead and crushing a three-run bomb over the Monster that landed on Lansdowne Street. ;)

Yeah, that was pretty funny.

I also find it amusing to hear Phillies fans cheering in Yankees stadium.

I found that to be remarkable. There were a LOT of Phillies fans in their brand new stadium.

I loved when FOX had Ken Rosenthal interviewing Mayberry's father and the graphic said "John Mayberry, Sr....we promise!"

Gah, Lester! Ace he is not this season. If Smoltz rehabs well, I'd almost be in favor of having him take Lester's spot in the rotation and demoting Lester to splitting time with Penny. I'd generally keep Masterson in the bullpen--especially if it means we never see Javier Lopez this season.

I was a little worried about the Twins against Lester, but he's looked a bit shaky this year. Kind of like Liriano: Not the ace pitcher the Twins were hyping early on. After Monday's outing, I'm thinking the same about him as you are about Lester.

There's no doubt Lester's got good stuff (no hitter, clinching game of the '07 World Series), but with an ERA dancing around 6.00, I just haven't seen any of it yet this season. The rest of the rotation--especially Wakefield--is finally finding its footing, though.

Well, Sox starting pitching blows another one. I think it's time for a bit of reshuffling of the rotation, as Lester and Dice-K have been consistently sub-par. Tito also needs to send Ortiz down and get someone up who can hit (Van Every, maybe?). Right now Ortiz is more of a liability than Lugo.

Dice-K looked like he had a case of the yips.

Glad the Twins won again, but considering how many base runners they had and the number of wild pitches (six, a MLB record for one game) Boston threw, I'm surprised the Twins only managed to score four runs.

I'm about over Chipper Jones. He needs to take the season off if he's just going to get hurt every other day all year.

I waited until the Giants won a few games to come back here. Now I feel better...

Little League Day at AT&T this Sunday, be very afraid.

Gotta love those newbie umpires who think they're such hot shit... link 1

Although I'm the farthest thing from a Red Sox fan, I do have to give Terry Francona all the props for what he said about the Metrodome. Link 2

Well, a lot of ejections in the Metrodome today. However, Beckett looked to be back in fighting form, and Tek was all over the Twins' pitching. Sox split the series with a 3-1 win and reclaim sole possession of the top spot in the AL East.

...

Well, if you have to go on a nine-game losing streak, might as well end it with a win over Boston.
