Major League Baseball 2009

Strange as it may seem, I haven't touched a drop the whole night. And at the same time I am glad *and* disappointed because of that. Disappointed, because I would really like to forget how utterly depressed I am right now; glad, because if I had access to booze right now, I'd be drunk for a week.

Look, I know I'm overreacting. Fine. I GET IT. But it's hard not to. Yanks haven't been to a World Series in years, and when we finally do...we die. :( Now tell me, why shouldn't I be just a little bit pissed off right about now?

You have serious issues...

CALM THE FUCK DOWN!

No one is dead, it's one game, it's baseball! No one died during the game! (OK thousands on the planet probably did, and their families are probably calmer than you!)

"The Yankees haven't been to a World Series in years! WWWAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!"

THEY WERE IN THE FUCKING WORLD SERIES 6 YEARS AGO! SIX FUCKING YEARS! Jesus Christ! The Red Sox never won a World Series in my dad's lifetime, they have only gone to the World Series three times in my life, luckily they won two of them. There was a whole 18 years between '86 and '04. The Cubs haven't even gone since like 1945! That's 55 years!

You are an example of why I don't like the Yankees.

You have serious issues...

You have NO idea. :borg:

Yeah, right, and you Red Sox fans couldn't have exactly been happy after this last ALDS, huh? Didn't that piss you off? Just a wee bit?

Yankee fans get a lot of shit over how our team supposedly expects to win, that we thought we already had it won this year, blah blah blah. Well, you guys won twice since '04, don't tell me that didn't make you feel at least a twinge of pride...or that you didn't gloat when we didn't even make the postseason last year.

There is disappointed, there is pissed off, and then there is you.

I knew the Sox weren't going to win much in the playoffs this year, I figured they would win a fucking game. I didn't act like my life was over that the team killed me and i was heading for the roof.

They are supposed to win because they outspend the rest of the league by more then 50 million dollars.

Im not complaining, Im just saying. When there is that big a difference, expectations are high.

2004 and 07 made me very very prideful. Proud of the teams and the city. Hell, 04 was a semi religious moment for a lot of people. Not only did they win, they gave the biggest FU to the Yanks in the history of professional sports.

Before that though...86 years of NOTHING. NOTHING. Period. Now luckily I was born late into that drought, but my parents and grand parents were not. I mean how do you think Sox fans felt the moment Aaron Boone hit that ball off of Wakefield in 03?

Im sorry but you are acting like a someone who thinks that the Yanks deserve to win it because they are the Yanks. No, it doesn't work that way. They have to earn it. And they didn't tonight.

There is disappointed, there is pissed off, and then there is you.

:guffaw: Thank you, I actually did need that. ;)

I suppose CC didn't do *that* bad, but it would be nice if we actually had some decent relief pitching, and a Nick Swisher who didn't constantly epic-fail...

I'm not angry simply because the Yankees lost. It's because we lost BADLY. (You forget what I was just saying to Supreme Admiral upthread.) Even I never thought we had a lock on it. But we did not play well at all tonight. Losing in a close game is one thing, but like this?

The Yankees only spent like $160 million this year, they can't afford everything.

:p

I'm still pissed that The Phillies beat Tampa Bay last year, so they can make it up to me by pounding (literally if they like) the Yankees.

That's true and I said the same thing in '07 when they bombed out in the division and when they lost against Boston the year before that four games in a row. They didn't deserve the win in those instances and tonight's effort on the offensive certainly had me thinking the same way.

Exactly. Boston this year played horribly, they didn't deserve to win, and they didn't. The asshole on New England Cable News is like "The Red Sox won't have any issues! They will be the Angels demons... blah blah...".

He's an ass and he had his ass handed to him on a gold plate.

That's why I hate watching White Sox/Yankees road games, 'cuz the commentators could not be more Sox-gusher if they were married to Ozzie Guillen. :p Of course, it is on a Chicago channel, so obviously there's gonna be SOME bias, but still...

Its Hawk Harrelson....kill me...kill me....

^ conversely, it's never quite that one-sided (commentary-wise) for Cubs/Mets games at Wrigley....

okay, I've had the opportunity to take a breather here...I really am sorry I had that meltdown. There really was no reason for that. It was, as they say, only game 1. And I should be happy that we even made it this far in the first place.

I guess I have been jumping into this with the zeal of the newly converted. But you know me, it's hard for me not to find something to overreact to. ;)

I just hope AJ pitches better tomorrow than CC did tonight, and Swish *and* A-Rod get their act together.

Well, in Howard vs. A-Rod I think Howard emerged victorious last night. I love A-Rod's numbers - 0-4 with 3 K's. Hopefully he can keep that up!

I'm so relieved that the Phillies bats are still hot. I was concerned that the week off would cool us down.

This shouldn't have come as a complete surprise to anyone. Gong back to his time in Cleveland, Cliff Lee has pitched very well against the Yankees, and Sabathia, of late. Even with this dominant game 1, there's so much mroe to go. How many times have we seen a game one become very atypical for a World Series as a whole?

But curse you Bud Selig and the baseball powers for giving us November baseball by design. :p The weather has bailed you out for now, but how long will it last?

We'll see how Pedro can hold up here, but counting on AJ for a miracle is playing with fire. He has spurts of greatness, but surrounded with lots of SUCK.

Some notes on Lee's pitching performance last night:
- that was the first complete game in a Game 1 of the World Series since 1995.
- KO's 10, BB's 0... which hasn't been done since 1903
- Allowed no earned runs and no baserunner reached 3rd base until the 9th inning.
