MadMan's Wallpaper Thread (Wide Image Warning)

They're being cast by the backsplash light from the planet, I think. I didn't notice the shadow lines, until now. :)

Well, I couldn't find motivation for Constellation tonight, but I did make a new wallpaper. We got new PCs at work, and I wanted a new one to show off on the 22'' monitors we got. :)

I built the Nebula out of part of a screencap from the BluRay TWOK... It needed alot of help, even so.

I hope you guys like it. :)

Thanks guys. :)

I'm surprised it gave the impression of the VGER cloud shot... the background came originally from a screengrab from TWOK. :)

Man that's perfect! The nebula doesn't look like a screencap; I would have guessed you recreated it in PS. Very nice.

Thanks. :) Well, it started off as a screencap. I had to do a lot to it to make it look smooth. I had to re-create the stars, as well. :)

Thanks. :)

I really need to get back into doing something.....

Okay, the NuLarson.

On an aside, I got the Abode Design suite today... so I've got a metric poo-load of learning to do. We'll see what I can do for any projects in the next few days. (I'm hoping SOME of my existing skills will be useful in the new stuff.)
You mean the new CS4 suite? I hate it. I had to test it at work, to make sure it would install ok on our base system load of XP... It works ok, but why did they have to change the UI? I wish they at least had an "old geezer" mode to make it look like normal. I'm going to stick with CS3 for as long as I can. :)

EDIT: Forgot to comment about the Larson Class. Man, that thing is ugly. :)

Well, this is my first time with ANY of these tools, so I can't compare it to CS3 or anything. I'm just going to have to dive in and figure things out. I'm just hoping that -some- of my skills can carry over... I really hate learning from scratch.

Should be simple to do, though. I would almost say to take your Reliant and throw the nacelle pylons onto that. Not exactly accurate, but not that far off, either.

Vance, I'm sure you'll be running with Adobe soon enough. It may seem daunting at first, but once you start to grasp the way things work, it ain't so bad.

Madman, I didn't know CS4 was so different from 3, but I'm not that surprised. I'm convinced that Adobe is determined to make their new software daunting so as to seem excessively impressive. I'll stick with my personal copy of 2, if for no other reason than money. :p

Yeah, ever since PS 7.0, I've been able to do everything I need. On my laptop, I went back to 7.0, just because of speed. :)

Thanks guys. :)

I just got back in from Vacation, and I'm getting everything back to normal. I should get back in the normal swing of things this week. :)

Hey, guys...

It's been a while since I produced anything, but I have gone back and tweaked an older image of mine, since I wanted to use it as wallpaper on my work machine. :)

I replaced the planet with one of my newer ones, and tweaked all the glows, and blurs. I think it looks a little better, now.

Have fun, guys. :)

Belive me, Jir, he's very familiar with these ships, as I'm the guy who got them to model them .. and pound him a little on their look. The dishes on the more organic lines of the NuEnterprise just don't look right, so he ditched them.

And, it's funny that you show those images of the ships as 'accurate'.. since the Columbia doesn't have spires like that anywhere.

That image I posted was the first one I could find on a Google image seacrh, and posted it only to point out the deflector dishes (not sure what you mean by 'spires'?) I also wasn't aware of you assisting him and nixing the idea of the dishes as you indicated.

I really like your scout image, especially the differences between it and the destroyer. I might just try to model that on my SFB minis.

In any case, no offense was intended.

It's no problem.... It's been a while since we had a thread talking about it. :)

Here's a planet I have been working on... the land is 100% original, done by me this morning. It's a combination of Lunar Cell, part of mars, and a bunch of hand-brushing.

It turned out WAY better than I hoped. :)

That's an amazing planet shot! How'd you manage to create that? Which program did you use? I'd love to try my hand at that.

It's all Photoshop. :)

I used the Flaming Pear "Lunarcell" plugin to build the outline of the landforms, and I used parts of Earth and Mars texture maps to add detail to the landmasses. I got a really huge cloud map from a friend, overlaid it, and used it to cast a shadow. The big shadow is just a layer on top of the planet, and the atmospheric glow is the same way. After all of that, I copy out a round part, (up until now its all a rectangular image) and then use the "Spherize" filter to make it look round. After about 10 tries, that's what I arrived at. :) The only problem I have with this method, is that if the image of the planet is REALLY big, you can get some pixellation around the edges.

I'm glad you liked it. :)
