Sony execs forgave Sidney Sweeney for her SNL joke, but are reportedly very upset at Dakota Johnson for not standing by their piece of trash, indeed even blaming her for the movie's failure.

Fans are supporting johnson.

That "article" is based solely on an unsourced claim made by the Daily Mail. So 98% chance it's completely manufactured bullshit. (Which may or may not be accidentally true. ;) )

I know that execs at the studios aren't the brightest bunch, but blaming her for the failure is too much even for them. I call BS on this.

It's mostly just a crap story but at the same time when it comes to blame their will be lots of passing the buck type of stuff in effort to not take any blame for themselves. Everything from blaming the fans to a disgruntled actor is more likely than blaming themselves for their mistakes. I'm guessing when movie like this fail lots of finger pointing starts to happen. Especially if their job is on the line.

Not been my experience.
I have known some people that don't mind and some that do. I don't personally know many people who liked She Hulk and I know many who are no longer finding the MCU compelling but rather increasingly silly...

Haven't the Deadpool movies been big hits?
The first one Yes....the second not as much. In the comics they have gone back and forth with what Deadpool's awareness is. First he's crazy then he's aware he's a comic character and can read ahead etc....
I never cared for Deadpool in the comics. Just don't care for the extreme silliness.
The third film will do huge business of course because Hugh Jackman is going to do his final outing as Wolverine in that movie.
I think audiences probably give him more a pass then they do She Hulk. Because She Hulk just walks right off the screen. Daredevil falls right out of the sky confused....a robot is the creator of the MCU etc...lol

Again I get people like this. I just don't care for it. I just wish they would have kept the tone somewhat consistent. But the silliness has gone off the rails imo...

I haven't seen the movie, and probably won't--but I would like to say it is a shame that a more comics accurate version of the character with an older actress was not produced. There is plenty of material for a movie with more atmosphere and less action that could have been creepy, suspenseful, and quite good.

That might have been interesting. Not sure it would make any money either but the actual movie could be very interesting.

The first one Yes....the second not as much.
Deadpool 2 had virtually identical box-office numbers (though its re-release admittedly fudges that a bit) and Metacritic scores to 1. 2 also came out shortly after Infinity War, and still made great returns. So yes, they were both big hits.

They're probably also happy that Sweeney has brought in over $200M vs $25M budget with Anyone But You. I want to know who is so in bed with these guys that they know that they not only are mad at Johnson but have forgiven Sweeney. Methinks might be some projection happening.

I think you just explained the dichotomy. The studio prefers to blame Johnson and not Sweeney because Sweeney is now seen as a more bankable star and the studio doesn't want to blow a chance to work with her in the future.

I know one person who is glad the movie failed. Jared Leto. Finally people will stop making fun of "Morbius."

Speaking of actors from Madame Web and anti-woke YouTubers, Slate currently has on its front page, I shit you not, this article: "It Needs to Be Said: Sydney Sweeney’s Boobs Are Not That Big. If anything, they're kind of average." Said article goes on to repeatedly cite 34DD as the average American female measurement. Neither the words "overweight" or "obese" are included in the article, though the CDC reports "Percent of adults age 20 and older with overweight, including obesity: 73.6% (2017-2018)." To be fair, the article does observe that Sweeney is short and thin, but it conspicuously, and, dare I allege, deliberately doesn't contrast her thinness with the fact that roughly three-quarters of Americans are not thin. In other words, the article generally, and the headline specifically, is trollery.

I don't identify as anti-woke, I'm not a fan of the anti-woke YouTubers, and I am a fan of much of Slate's output, but, when I read articles as deliberately misleading and trolling as that, I understand why so many guys these days do resent wokeness. Long-deserved generational/gender-al payback or not, people tend not to like being trolled, and when they are, they're likely to snap back.

I don't even understand what point you're making. What does that seemingly asinine article have to do with anti-wokeness?

Having Big boobs makes you anti-woke. Having small ones make you woke? I think? Not really sure.

We men, who run the world, are not giving Sydney special treatment, or being controlled by Sydney's boobs, because they are ordinary boobs and not special boobs.

Sigh.

The 80s were so long ago.

Edit

I have what I think is a 20 year old Al Pachino quote in my head... "All tits are great, that's why they're tits."

The way they're talking about this movie over and over again, it's becoming the Heaven's Gate of the 2020s. It's not just a film that failed at the box office, it's the cinematic embodiment of the very concept of failure.

Well, except from the director being a total jackass dictator.

Really, it's being singled out the way it is partly because it was a big female led movie. It's part of the Incel backlash to try and get women banned from leading movies that aren't romances/dramas/romantic comedy type films. They've been out for women's blood since around 2016 or so.

The anti-wokeness crowd, not without reason, conflates mainstream media with wokeness. That asinine article is from a mainstream media outlet, i.e., from a woke outlet. Ergo, the woke outlet is trolling its readers, particularly the straight male ones, and not even in a humorous/tongue-in-cheek way. That's all.
