Luke Cage season 2

As of episode five....
Foggy has now been in every Netflix Marvel series except for Iron Fist and The Punisher. I didn't expect him to appear but it was a pleasant surprise nonetheless!
I counted five "crossover " characters. Foggy, Colleen, Danny, Ben Donovan (Mariah's sleazy lawyer was also Wilson Fisk's sleazy lawyer) and DA Blake Tower, seen in DD S2. Mentions of Matt, Jessica, Turk, Karen Page and Cloak and Dagger's Detective O'Reilly.

If I recall correctly, Rosario Dawson has stated that she has played through her contract with Marvel, and there's been no contact from them about re-signing.
Wait, what?! That's the first I've read that news. Where did you read that? This would be a very weird note to end the character on. Plus, I'm pretty sure I saw something where she said she was interested in doing more, including checking off The Punisher checkbox.

Turk also appears, but I don't remember the Karen reference. Did Foggy mention her?

I tried to find her original tweet, only to find an article saying that she had indeed re-signed. So... nevermind on that.

Karen Page was mentioned as one of the reporters inquiring about a surviving witness to the restaurant massacre. Where was Turk?

Okay, a porn stage name is what I meant. :p
FWIW, I appreciate that the show has managed to go with two snake-themed characters and find a different explanation. Cottonmouth was because his mouth was filled with cotton when he lost a tooth (or something like that). Bushmaster literally comes from the Jamaican bush.

Anyway, I thought this season was better than the first season. Mariah and the Stokes family drama was compelling and Bushmaster was a great character as well.

The ending was definitely a wow moment.

Three. Diamondback.

I thought Diamondback basically was a snake-themed villain, though. I didn't recall any other explanation.

Wow, they really stepped up their game with this season. I liked how they used the episodes to build up and tell a complete story. I don't even think Bushmaster does anything until like episode three (end of two?) and they weave a tale that really intertwines all of the characters and their histories and keeps your interest even with a lack of outright "action" in some episodes. Episode 13 is basically a full on epilogue. I think this is probably the best season of any Marvel show though I haven't caught season 2 of Jessica Jones yet.

Mustafa Shakir is striking with his lanky frame, angular features and steel eyes and is a worthy successor to Cottonmouth. Amusingly, and sometimes helpfully, the Netflix subtitles translates a lot of Bushmaster's speech into proper English. I had to turn them on cuz I couldn't understand anything he was saying especially before I got used to it. To think , they had f'n Mahershala Ali and threw him away!

I didn't even know Nightshade was a thing until reading this thread. I don't think Alfre Woodward left any scenery without teeth marks and the late Reg E Cathey was solid as Luke's father. And damn if Bobby Fish isn't just smooth cool as hell. Looking at IMDB, I see Ron Jones is on This Is Us which probably explains that reference. Really, everyone turned in a pretty decent, if not good to great performance.

I thought it was interesting and fitting that everyone has another name (Shades, Cage, Piranha, Bushmaster, Dillard, Comanche, etc.) as the whole season seemed to be about identity, who you were, who you really are, who you want to be, what you're hiding and so on. The relationship between Shades and Comanche was interesting and unusual in presentation. Just when you start to feel some sympathy for Shades you see just how much he relishes some of the nasty shit he's done in the interrogation. Nobody really has completely clean hands by the end of this one. Even when Cage is being squeaky clean he opens the door to a whole lot of nasty shit that wouldn't have otherwise happened.

Was anyone thinking Luke's video showing the limits of his abilities was going to come back to haunt him?

I liked that they embraced the oft-ridiculed "Sweet Christmas" and make it actually sound natural.

"Where's my money, honey?"

:rommie::lol::guffaw::techman:
I couldn't believe they threw that in! lol

That's a great observation. You can add Misty, Iron Fist, and Sugar to that list, too. I think the only people who don't go by a different moniker are Colleen and Claire. I know technically Claire is the Night Nurse but she's never gone by that name in any of the Netflix series. Does Colleen have a street name when she's part of Daughters of the Dragon in the comics?

I've binged this one in three days, never done that with a 13 ep season and it is easily my favourite of the Netflixes.
I have some problems with the dialogue, it ranges from pitch perfect in the emotional scenes (so many wonderful perfomances!) to kind of pedestrian and clichéd in every-day and superhero-shenanigan scenes, I don't know, perhps that's just me.
Finally: Shades, he has to be one of my top three Marvel villains (I'm not sure I even want to call him that), brilliantly written and a wonderful performance by Theo Rossi.

So, let me get this straight: in the MCU you can create something more powerful than the Super Soldier Serum with the ingredients that you can find in a herbalist's shop?

You should have heard the ingredients of the serum that Calvin Johnson used to create his Mr. Hyde persona on Agents of Shield Season 2.

I think the idea is that the power is within Bushmaster but he needs the nightshade to access it. Perhaps his near death experience as a youth caused them to become linked together? Wasn't there a vaccine involved?

Yes, something like that. Still, it's incredible simple to obtain superpowers in the MCU. You can have them just using fish oil pills.

There is another similarity between the Marvel comics universe and MCU: only a tiny fraction of superpowered people deal with common crime and they are all concentrated in New York. On the other end, virtually every iteration of Superman splits his time between stopping alien invasions and saving kitties from trees. Heck, virtually every major member of the JLA patrols her/his city dealing with everyday issues. But you almost never see Thor or any other Marvel's powerhouse doing something similar.
