Paramount never said this, people made it up as the reasoning since other streaming services had written off shows. If it was written off it would be 100% gone, they wouldn't be releasing blurays or spending money to finish it up and shop it around.
Presumably they want to shop both seasons as a package. It's hard to sell customer on a second season if you have to watch the first on a competing service.

Yeah, it was. If they're unsuccessful shopping it around, I think it's pretty likely to end up back on Paramount+. If the strike drags on Paramount may want something to show after Discovery ends to keep Trek fans subscribed.
International has always been a side bonus to Paramount. Considering that they still region lock trailers in 2023. It's like they don't want any of us to actually sign up to their service.
Unless you were a Star Trek fan already you probably wouldn't even realize there was a new season on.
Aaaaaarrrrgh! The Star Trek: Lower Decks - Crew Handbook has been put back by a couple of months to 19th December. It was originally due out next month and I've been counting down the days to get my new LDS fix (as I haven't been able to watch Season 4 now that Prime no longer has it). 
So I made this rough guess at Carol Freeman's career path based on known characters time at each rank, her date of birth is based off her actress as is common in Trek.
Born 2321
Starfleet Academy at 18: 2339 – 2342
2342 – 2344 Ensign
2344 – 2346 Lieutenant
2346 – 2351 LC
2351 Beckett Mariner born - raised until 16.
2367 – 2367 LCommander
2367 - 2375 Commander
2375 Captain
I figured Carol was promoted to Captain after the Dominion War given the need for personnel.
I know some folk continue to serve when child rearing (Worf) but I figured Carol would be somewhere 'safe' during those years and not likely to be going up in rank, whilst Alonzo did not put his career on hold hence he is a four-star Admiral in 2380. Possibly again due to Dominion War service?

There is indeed a Koala shaped nebula cloud in the opening logo, yes.
There was also a Koala in the starfield at the end of the SNW intro that had the LDS characters ("Those Old Scientists").

I know rationally that it can’t go on forever but I’ll be bummed if it stops at 5. I’m not super optimistic though. There are just so many headwinds at the moment.
Damn. I would be very bummed if LDS went away. I’m not telling my daughter about even the hint of this. She would be devastated.
I would certainly be sad when Lower Decks comes to an end, but of course it does have to happen sometime. As with any show, I just hope that when it does end, it can go out with a sense of closure and actual completion. Dangling cliffhangers are the worst.
I really don’t see any of these ST shows going beyond a 5th season especially in the current environment with streaming right now.
This really should come as no surprise. Especially in the current environment there is no promise of another season.
