Hell, Orville was billed as a comedy and definitely marketed as such and yet had some deeper episodes within the first five episodes: "Pria" and "Krill."

And, this is why I don't like trailers. Shit ton of assumptions with little to no context to confirm them.
Where Trek is concerned, I'll take too lighthearted over too dark any day of the week. It is one of the reasons I prefer The Orville to CBS' current offerings.
I also prefer orville! seth is someone truly woke! in star trek we still did not see something like the captain having gay sex or firmly affirming that religion is the cancer of society

I don't prefer the Orville. Just noting the differences from trailer to show.

Well that looked like it's going to be fun!! :D Was surprised at some stuff, really thought this would be much more kids friendly.

I wonder where it will stream in the Netherlands. CBS is being a dick when it comes to stuff outside of the USA. Discovery is on Netflix, Picard on Prime. I really don't want another streaming service just for one show.

I actually enjoyed that. The jokes actually made me smile.
I don't think this series was made with me in mind, and that's OK, the demographic for Trek fans needs to be expanded, and new blood brought in (judging by the old fogies this needs to happen fast). I'll watch a few episodes and see if I continue with it.

The the main cbsaa trailer is close to 5 million views now, which rivals some of the early Discovery trailers after a day.

Didn’t find the trailer terribly funny but didn’t find it off-putting, either. I’m hoping the comedy is character-driven rather than reliant on rapid-fire gags like Family Guy. The latter might lend itself better to a short trailer, but the former would be an easier fit in the Trek universe.

I agree. I mean, last season of Short Treks a lot of people complained about the "humor" in Ephraim and Dot, along with the fake commercial at the end of The Trouble with Edward, because they were just a bit too wacky to take seriously as something that happens within continuity. I think they were fine as they were - I didn't really pay attention to the Loony-Toons style physics of the former, and the impossibility of the latter being filmed within universe - but I can understand why fans who believe Star Trek is some literal documentary footage from the Trekverse had issue with them. If you just make the humor from the reactions of the mains being different from what we're used to from Trek characters, then that is a good source for humor.

Honestly, the show looks like it's going to be lots of fun. This is new territory for Trek and I'm excited to see it.

Also, it's much cheaper to potentially see Deep Space Nine in animated form anyway. :p

I honestly don't care if it is "woke" or not, the original Star Trek would've been considered "woke" in its time. What I do care about is if the show is entertaining. For me, The Orville is entertaining, CBS Trek to this point mostly isn't.

Umm... What?

Exactly how is a show where the lead character is a white male "woke"? When did Ed Mercer have gay sex? And doesn't Picard basically shit on religion in Who Watches the Watchers?
