Spoilers Lower Decks General Discussion Thread

Middle.

Ground.

Its there. Trek mostly found it for 35 years.

It is a two-minute trailer. For me, Picard looked like a major winner based on two-minute trailers, I eventually got bored and drifted away. The ship's ugly and I have no clue why the name is on the back of the saucer, but after Discovery and Picard, I like that they seem like they are having fun with this. It could still be a huge disaster. Though I'll likely treat the show as its own thing, not worried about the canon aspects.

I hope it is decent, would be nice to have something to justify my All-Access subscription beyond my Mother-in-Law using it to watch the shows she likes.

The jokes don't seem funny in the slightest,
There might not be any laugh out loud hilarious moments, but I did chuckle a few times, like the MSD joke, the guy being naked in the shuttle cockpit, or the "calm down the phaser was, err, is on stun."

So it seems like with every new Trek show there’s a significant portion of the fan base totally against it initially, and based on almost nothing really.

People should give this an actual chance when it airs rather than judging it by, what, 60 seconds of spliced together scenes?

It works both ways, with some folks convinced whatever is coming around the bend will be the best thing ever.

Yes, they should. But, they won't. Fans are all or nothing in their knee jerk reactivity.

It's a cartoon.

Discovery and Picard were too serious, now this isn't serious enough.

That’s just Trekkies, isn’t it? There’s literally nothing that’ll please everyone. I liked the trailer. There wasn’t much beyond a brief introduction so I wasn’t knocked off my feet, but I wasn’t with the Rick and Morty trailer either and that’s one of my favourite comedies of all time. I’m going to do what I always do, and what so many others don’t, which is to judge it based off of the actual show after I’ve watched it. I know that’s a bit risqué but I’m going to go for it anyway.

As for the comedy, I think good comedy is often a result of knowing the character, understanding their personality, and understanding the context. It’s Always Sunny is a perfect example of that concept. This show could miss the mark entirely, or it could be great. We won’t know until we watch it. Well, I won’t. Others made up their mind long ago. To each their own.

Looks better than DIS and PIC to me. It seems to be fun and upbeat. Even based on this trailer it is obviously there will be different kinds of missions, planets, aliens, etc. So not just one dragged out long season plot which neither DIS or PIC have done well so far.

I'm seeing a lot of comments online (not just here) that this show looks too 'silly/funny.' I don't know why I'm surprised by this, but I am. After all the hate DSC/Pic got for being too dark, now this is too lighthearted?

These reactions would be funny if they didnt also make me sad.

As someone who really dislikes the Orville, I hope it doesn’t go too far down that road. Either way, I’m looking forward to finding out.
