Spoilers Lower Decks General Discussion Thread

Excited for more Lower Decks adventures, but very sad it's ending so soon, at least on TV.
Fingers crossed for a continuation of sorts - whether it's animated, live-action or a mix of both, with (TV) movies, games and not just comics - even if they are no longer lower deckers by rank.

Stocked that the gem that is Tawnee Newsome gets to be involved in Star Trek's future (writer on Academy and working on a potential live-action comedy of sorts)

I read the article and they talked about Section 31 being the first TV movie in the franchise history. Wasn't there a few Voyager episodes that premiered as TV Movies or is this different? I'm thinking specifically of Dark Frontier. Maybe even with the ad subscription on Paramount Plus, they won't actually have ads and it actually will be a "movie"?

While Dark Frontier was shot and intended as a TV movie, and released on home media as such, it still was aired as two episodes.

No, it was aired as a special feature-length episode. The same with Flesh and Blood in Season 7, and DS9’s The Way of the Warrior. And the respective pilots and final episodes.

Two-part versions were used for syndicated reruns.

You might be thinking of The Killing Game, which did air as two separate episodes, albeit both on the same night.

And all the series finales and series premieres. They were originally intended as a 2 hour (Or 90 minute) single episode.

I went off of Memory Alpha so apologies if I was in error.

I honestly didn't keep that close of track to Voyager on air, and only recall Scorpion's advertisements.

I have just (re)watched "Lower Decktionary: Season 3" on the Blu-Ray and finally got around to googling the coordinates that appear in the LCARS display around Mike McMahan (those coordinates and others appear in the LCARS around the cast too, but I only made note of Mike's towards the end of the video). They are: 49.2827N 123.1207W which is Vancouver, and 37.8651N 119.5383W which is Yosemite National Park - A Parliament-class starship and a Cerritos shuttle!

Has anyone else done this? What locations do the other coordinates denote? (I'm guessing one of them is Cerritos, California)

The latter part of this is what gives me hope. Every time some entertainment news outlet tweets that this is the end of Lower Decks, McMahan or one of the cast/crew members chimes in by emphasizes "on Paramount+." I'm sure it's just everyone putting on a brave face, but goddamn am I hopeful we get a Prodigy situation where another outlet picks it up.

I gotta say, I am doing a re-watch in anticipation of Season 5, and I gotta say, I am enjoying things more the 2nd time around. I am up to the DS9 episode in Season 3, and I gotta say, I think Lower Decks is firmly establishing itself as Tier 1 Trek in my mind (TOS, TNG, DS9, SNW, LD).

I still have Prodigy right on the cusp. Tier 2 would be TAS, VOY, ENT, DISCO, PIC.

I recently met someone at the grocery store with a RITOS shirt! It's his favorite of the new shows
~ I answered the door wearing one of my Kimolu & Matt T-shirts the other day, and the guy delivering whateveritwas started enthusing about how much he liked Lower Decks and how he was really excited to see cetacean ops on screen at last. Obviously I agreed wholeheartedly

Also, I went to my sister's wearing my RITOS T-shirt for Saturday night drinks & cards and she was wearing hers!

Except for "TATV...(ENT)," which even in the Berman Era and the 21st century got saddled with not only a dreadful script and reception by the fanbase but an abbreviated one-hour farewell that was barely 43 minutes long after you omit the commercials.

But it aired on the same night as Terra Prime. I still look at TATV as the Star Trek Berman era epilogue while Terra Prime was the true series finale.
