Oh, so he's a complete fucking asshole. That's beyond what I thought, and he had driven my opinion of him about as low as I thought it could go. Well, he's now beyond "I don't care for his stuff anymore" straight into "he's one of my most hated actors". Hopefully this d-list jackass (well, he's an a-list jackass but a d-list actor) manages to stay out of anything else I want to see. What an irredeemable prick. Easily one of the nastiest people to ever work on Star Trek. Which, to be fair, is nothing compared to a few other actors from other sci fi shows (he's no Adam Baldwin, at least) but its still pretty screwed up.

When it comes to entertainment, a lot of people are egoistic though. They want that series and movies are produced that they personally enjoy. All those superhero movies mean for example that those big Hollywood studios have less cinema slots and money left for some other expensive movies.

Right now you don't mind this, but I think even you could change your mind under the right circumstances. Just imagine that Paramount would own the Marvel franchise and suddenly the news was that the next Star Trek movie was shelved, because it makes more financial sense to put the money into Ant-Man 3. Would you still be so relaxed about those superhero movies then? Not wish at least a tiny little bit that Ant-Man 3 would fail? Even if you personally wouldn't, I think a lot of Star Trek fans would.

But they aren't a fan of what they want to see fail. That was my whole point. If it wouldn't be so awkward it might be better to talk about TOS fans or VOY and ENT fans or movies 11 - 13 fans or something like this. Trek fans is really a big generalization. You might love all of it, but others don't and they aren't somehow honour bound to wish every incarnation of the franchise well. Why should they? The franchise is first and foremost a big money making corporation. It is not a charity event.

And those people are likely confident that sooner or later something new with the name Star Trek on it will be produced and personally I think they are right. No matter if DIS will fail or not, if I don't die young I am sure I have the opportunity to watch a few more Star Trek movies and series in my life as movies and series makers just love spin-offs, remakes and reboots. So they don't think they are threatening the existence of the franchise in the first place. Some might also think like Myko pointed out earlier that the sooner an incarnation they dislike is gone, the sooner something they like will be produced. Or they might think if what they dislike is successful, it will mean more of it. That the spin-off after it will be just the same.

Feel free to feel angry about, but I don't see what is weird about this behaviour. People not supporting something they don't like or even wishing that it would fail, is really not unusual. It happens all the time and not only in regards to the entertainment business.

Well, as someone who has emotions, I think its silly that people act like they don't hate things. Hate can be bad or it can be good. hating things like tv shows, actors, etc is more like neutral hate. This guy might be a gigantic asshole, but its not like I'll waste much time thinking about him unless I'm actively reading about something he did or watching something he is in. So, not much time used, and absolutely none of it wasted.

Why wouldn't I be serious? Disagreeing with the majority doesn't make someone a troll (I've never trolled in my life). Isaacs is a prick, and knowing how bad he is he's now an actor I actively hate. I went from liking his work to just not caring to actively hating him, but its all based off his own words and actions.

If Star Trek fails commercially on television.. or streaming in this case... it could be decades before someone tries again... and there ARE NO GUARANTEES THAT THE SAME FANS WOULDN'T COMPLAIN ABOUT THAT.
When fans actively attempt to boycott and promote a boycott, when they publicly discuss how much they want the franchise to fail, when they attempt to convince others that it needs to fail, they are endangering the franchise they claim to love. That's behavior that can't be excused.
I don't like a lot of things, but I don't spend time wishing they would go away. People have the right to enjoy them. I will state clearly and succinctly why I don't like them, and then I will ignore the things I don't like.

No one is hoping something they love will fail. They hope something they dislike will fail. For example the people who didn't like the new movies and hoped they would fail were obviously not loving them.

I think that someone rooting for the failure of something that other people enjoy is an asshole. They deserve to live the rest of their days watching season two reruns of Space: 1999 with no internet connection.
