Lorca: Fans Will Have To Adjust

I'm finding difficult to believe that such obtuse posts are written by accident.

If some people wouldn't be so "obtuse" and understand that there are obviously tons of people out there who don't love the franchise as a whole and don't care about its health as a whole, I wouldn't have to state the obvious.

You know there are even tons of people out there, who think Star Trek as a whole is crap. Those people have helped the franchise you love less than those who might have only watched one Star Trek series. Are you ranting against them, too?

I am curious... where do you place yourself?

No, it's all based off whatever your psychosis is...
Numerous friendly reminders have been posted about replying to dissenting points of view politely and addressing the post, not the poster. This is clearly not adhering to that and as such has resulted in an infraction for trolling.

Everyone: if you want to debate 5s or anyone else you don't agree with, great. If you're only interested in playing to the peanut gallery with snark, don't reply to him.

My favourite Star Trek series is by far TOS. I like all the other Star Trek series though, too. I also really liked 2 out of the last 3 movies. Just Into Darkness was a bit of a disappointment, although still better than most TNG movies. As a TOS fan the new movies had the advantage of more characters I like. So far I haven't really hated a series or movie with the name Star Trek on it. Definitely not to the degree that I would have liked it to fail. I have my doubts about DIS, but I will see. I have to watch it first. Maybe it will positively surprise me.

I guess I can just empathizes better than you with people, who dislike an incarnation of a franchise. Like I mentioned previously in this thread, I am a huge SG1 and SGA fan and absolutely hated the travesty which was SGU. And after all the crap the producers, writers, some actors and of course tons of SGU fans said about fans who liked only SG1 and SGA, I was kind of happy to see it fail. They also spoke like Stargate fans are somehow obligated to love every incarnation of the franchise and support it and when some didn't and even dared to criticise it, they were practically declared traitors. So I was on that side once and I just found it really unfair. You can't force someone to love something.

Those people who hate an incarnation of a franchise are already punished enough. Don't you think they wish that they could enjoy all incarnations? That they choose to hate something? I am sure they rather wish that they could enjoy everything.

And when they come to forums like this and let out their frustration, feel free to debate their points about a movie or series or just ignore them. But all this "you are endangering the franchise" thing is just stupid. A few people on the internet don't matter. They really really don't. It is the faceless masses who will never visit boards like this, who decide over a commercial success of a series or a movie. So just relax a bit.

That's a great example of "to each his own".

While I found SG1 to be great fun, and SGA to be "OK, but not great", I really really liked SGU. I wasn't thrilled with all of the characters, but I liked most of them (especially Robert Carlyle's character), and I mostly enjoyed the story they were telling, and the overall manner that the show was executed.

It was very different in tone and style than SG1, but that didn't matter to me.

But then again, it's just TV.
Exactly. At the end of the day, it's all just ephemeral entertainment. I would rather channel my enthusiasms and passions into real-world experiences than some diversion on a TV screen.

I've been here nearly as long, and made even more posts. And I'll tell you now, the vast majority of them aren't to do with Trek or defending it's canon. I can't speak for Kor, but people here this long with that many posts normally it's mostly social posts.

Exactly. I speak from experience. This is all just light entertainment, a mild diversion.

And besides, I was absent for about thirteen years.

Talking on a forum is not what I understand under "real-world experiences" regardless of what you are talking about here. I mean I have no problem with it. I am after all spending time here too, which I could use for other stuff. I just found Kor's comment a little curious considering his amount of messages. ;)

There are people here with several times his amount that have not debated Trek for a tenth of it.

Yes, I know and I personally don't mind it. It just appeared that Kor was giving out an advice, he hasn't followed himself. I was commenting on that. Not criticizing in itself that people spend time on this forum. I mean why should I? I am here myself.

It was a low blow to imply that someone else had a post count purely through arguing, which simple wasn't true. Weasle all you want.

I didn't say anywhere at all that he got his post count purely through arguing. You are reading something into my comment, which simply was never there.
And by the way there is nothing wrong with arguing in the first place. Forums are a place for debates. A place for exchanging opinions and supporting them with arguments.
