List Only! Last Star Trek Episode You Watched

I watched Children of Mars twice. The first time because it was new and then I watched it again because I read an article about reading the various texts and it made much more sense. I really wish those kids appeared in Picard. We won't ever see them again.

DS9-The Way of The Warrior. I find this episode more enjoyable knowing that Martok is a changling infiltrator. I don't know if the producers had that in mind at the same but it plays exactly as if they had the whole arc planned.

"Children of Mars" obviously.

Six episodes left in TNG's first season for me to re-watch. Then I'm really done with re-watching TNG. Six episodes times 46 minutes equals 276 minutes or just over four-and-a-half hours. It's doable to burn this whole thing off tonight. Sooo... that's what I'm going to do. Gonna go for it!

Meld

This episode is extremely underrated. I also think it might work better now than when it originally aired. While I don't listen to them, the whole True Crime podcast genre has taken off in the last several years and isn't that what this episode is about? We go inside the mind of a serial killer, and the mystery is solved but the reason why he did it is the most fascinating part. That seems true crime to me. We also get commentary on the pros and cons of capital punishment, and the ending with the final meld was still amazing.

Lon Sudor is one of my favorite low key Star Trek recurring characters. Part of it is I think Dourif does this kind of character really well, but I think to see him as this person with no regard to life to someone who we see in Basics, that's pretty good character development, even if a lot of it happened on screen. Sudor explains in that episode what he's been doing in his quarters all these months and that's good enough for me. I really do wish when I go to conventions the same episodes would not be brought up over and over. I think an episode like Meld is the perfect episode to show anyone who wants to get into Star Trek but might not be so sure what it's about in terms of social commentary.

DSC BR rewatch continues

"If Memory Serves"
Still, even after all the "new car smell" effects have worn off, and it's much easier to be objective, I'd rank this as the best episode of the series, and in my top tier for all of Trek. It's a masterpiece, and second only to TWOK in ierms of sequels/ties to TOS episodes. Everything about it is a joy to watch. Even the B-story involving Culber's reintegration and conflict with Tyler is awesome. All of the performances by the cast are off the charts. 10/10 Trek right here.

"Project Daedalus"
Totally solid episode. I'm one of the minority who felt like the Airiam stuff was meaningful and moving, despite the fact that she wasn't a main character up to this point. Again, performances were great in this one, and the chess scene is reminiscent of the observation room scene in FC (also directed by Frakes): just sizzling conflict between two solid actors giving their all.

Short Treks
"Children of Mars"
My second-favorite short after Calypso. It was uniquely done, poignant and impactful. I love the use of "We Could Be Heroes" (getting chills just typing that), and the last 2 minutes invoked very strong memories of that "you'll never forget where you were" feeling on 9/11/01. I loved it.

Gushing, but it was a great Trek night for me.

"Children Of Mars":
Admiral Picard??? Wasn't that supposed to be before even the time of Kirk? I am a little confused here.

No,it takes place some time between the end of Nemesis and the premier of Picard.

TNG - The Nth Degree. Why the crew would disassemble Guinan's bar (complete with matted pressure points clearly visible on the groovy shag carpeting) and haul in the love shack set from the eponymously titled song by the B-52s when they all could have just sardine themselves inside of a holodeck to watch the theater - it's a lot like the number of licks to get to the center of a tootie pop; the world may never know. That aside, Barclay's long-hair wig suits him and the episode remains surprisingly a fantastic (and surprisingly fun) adventure. Great chemistry between Dwight Schultz and LeVar Burton definitely did not hurt (Geordi even has emotions, contrary to most of the bridge crew. Riker too, who all but growls angrily at Data for not understanding politeness when applauding in typical Rikerian style!), and Schwartz really nails it as the complex character of Barclay. Definitely a top tier season 4 entry...

That was an interesting experience, going through all of TNG. And I did it with two weeks to spare. Expect a thread from me in the TNG Forum in the near-future, after I've gathered all my thoughts.

But from here on out, it's back to watching whatever whenever I feel like it.

Dreadnaught - Pretty good episode. Liked seeing the Cardassian design on Voyager and it was a good vehicle for B'elanna.

Death Wish - This is probably a top 5 episode of Voyager for me. There is so much packed into 45 minutes but it just packs an unreal punch. There was a quote in this episode that really caught my attention, but because I'm terrible with quotes, it might come across as paraphrasing. It was in the Continuum (One of my favorite scenes in the franchise) and Q (Quinn) said something like the rights of the individual must be maintained as long as it does not conflict with the State. What a powerful line that was and I would say timely as well.
