"Symbiosis" - TNG
A horrible episode.
First off, the ENT crew are pretentious a-holes. And, the overall plot is pretty much a time waster.
If the aliens had a drug/drug pusher relationship before the ENT arrived in their system, how is the ENT fixing their ships to 'ship' said drugs going to change anything? It was already established that the alien captain - portrayed by Merritt Butrick - was commander for this vessel around 7 years, so apparently these guys were able to ship their materials around somehow....(cue plot hole!) Furthermore, if the drug addicts were so crazed because of their 'medicine,' how did they run their government, get their ships into space, and what have you? (cue another plot hole!)
Also, what were the drug pusher aliens doing on the addict ship since it was shown that the addicts can't really function unless they have their medicine? (Not that they - the addicts - seemed to know how to fix things even with their medicine). The pusher aliens could have perished before the ENT arrived.
Lastly, what is the horrid bit about Wesley asking about drugs? I was 15 years old and knew the effects of drugs! (That's kind of a thing schools tell you about in elementary school. However, for all the smarts that Wesley is supposed to have, he was sure stupid about that one thing!)
Overall, "Symbiosis" was a script that should have went through a few more rewrites before production. While good to see Judson Scott and Merritt Butrick in Star Trek again, they had to work with a pretty bad script.
I now have a headache, and I need some 'medicine' myself; a movie or television episode with good writing.
