Spoilers Let’s talk about the destruction of Trek utopia…

Head shaving is against Gene's vision.

No it doesn’t.

Watch star trek the voyage home. It does violate canon. They swear every other sentence now. Kirk explained to spock all about it. Its canon. That's ok Picard sucks and lost 40% of its viewership mid season. Also Stewart is getting old and his voice sounds like a old British womans. So the damage wont go beyond 3 seasons of 10 episodes each. By the let's hope creators that get star trek will take over.

At this point I'm seriously wondering if you are committed to a reasonable discussion or merely trolling us.

You seriously have no idea what you’re talking about. But what else is new?

You have clearly never watched the damn show then. They don't swear every other sentence.

This has nothing to do with the thread topic. You've run out of things to talk about regarding the topic so now you're just spewing nonsense.

Also the viewership numbers aren't public, so you're now just pulling statistics out your ass.

The best reply to someone like that is no reply. Never jump through the hoops of someone who's playing you. Ever. Because then they know they're always in control. If he's starving for attention, let him starve.

That's why I'm more interested in talking about the original topic: "The Destruction of Trek Utopia". Utopia is something that doesn't exist, so it can't be destroyed.

I wouldn't call the Earth or Federation we saw in TNG/DS9/VOY a Utopia. But they did a good job of lying to themselves and pretending it was. At least in PIC they seem to be more honest about what the situation actually is.

I wouldn't say most of then "pretended" it was utopia (like a creepy Truman Show-esque them park) but they tried to strive for a realistic vision of it most of the time, even if a younger Picard and Co. pre-Borg had become too complacent - the older characters in Picard definetely seemed jaded and exhausted.

Evidence? Of any of this.

I liked how DS9 challenged the view of the Federation being a paradise through Eddington's commentary about the Maqui and the Federation. Like, is the Federation really a utopia or is more that certain people believe it is because of their naivete / idealism?

I've never interpreted Gene's Vision as the Federation and humanity being perfect, but simply that we are more evolved in the future than we are today. So yes, the problems of today don't exist in the future, but that doesn't mean there are no problems at all in the future.

I see Gene's vision as being one where humanity has moved beyond much of the pettiness of today, and we're working to better ourselves. That doesn't mean we've reached perfection, but we're not settling for the standards of the past.
