Less Discussed Star Powers

As I recall this was discussed in the ring ship thread. There was discussion regarding the more magical technologies, particularly the Transporter.

We met one of the developers of the transporter in Enterprise: they didn't go into detail, but there was no indication he reverse engineered anything, besides maybe just seeing other species had them (assuming they did).

Cultural Index. Tzenkethi.
I adore any opportunity we get to play with non-humanoids...Star Wars (and even Lower Decks) is more fun in this regard...but I kinda prefer the Tzenkethi from the books to the games. We've gotten plenty of mean and/or scale-y baddies before (Gorn, Klingons, Cardassians, Jem-Hadar, Hirogen) but the idea of "pretty" baddies...that's rare. Genetically-engineered attractive-to-many-species authoritarians...in sleek ships....sounds pretty intriguing and cool.

Cultural Index. Gorn.
Until their mention on PIC, I took the Gorn's absence from later series (and Cestus III being a Federation world) to mean that they either joined the Federation or that they were conquered by the Klingons. I mean, we keep hearing about how the Klingons are an "empire" and the fiercest warriors around...well...some eyebrow raising conquests would really sell that idea.

When PIC came along I also wondered if they were conquered by the Romulans instead and upon the breakup of the Star Empire they reestablished their Hegemony.

Though I suppose they could have also reclaimed their independence from the Klingons during the upheaval when the Romulan Star Empire collapsed as well.

But, again, we keep getting introduced to all these huge interstellar "empires" but everyone from them seems to be the same race.

Another reason for the Gorn's non-mention in later series could be that they're a "client state" of one of the larger empires and do whatever their partner state does. If the Romulans sign a non-aggression pact with the Dominion, they too are obliged to sit this one out. This might also be a more realistic look at things as not every power out there is going to unify with a larger one (Federation) or be conquered by a larger one (Klingon Empire).[/QUOTE]

Yes, I also like the idea of non-humanoids appearing in Trek. Indeed, one the best aliens in Trek was Species 8472.

Judoon-from Dr. Who. Bipeds with rhino like heads. Have been described as mercenary police, or hired thugs.

I haven't heard anything about the Jarada since Picard's diplomatic mission. ("The Big Goodbye" in TNG).

As the Malurians had starships during Archer's era, I suspect that some survived the destruction of their home world and became a refugee population within the Federation.

Consider the Typhon Pact.

In regards to the Khitomer Accord, there was conflict between the Klingons and the Federation during the Borg/Dominion crisis period. I can easily imagine the Klingons going their own way, perhaps leading to a three-way Cold War. The Ferengi would likely become officially neutral, while pursuing their commercial interests with everybody. There might be a few other, independent minor powers.

What conflict between the Federation and the Klingons?

Re a Cold War, I wonder, who are the Ferengi’s rivals on the galactic stage? The Orion Syndicate are mobsters; are they also legit traders? The Nausicaans seem to be mercenaries for hire (by Ferengi) but they also seem to have a government and trade. The Yridians are information traders… I dunno, thoughts?

Talarians. They are sorta like Klingon-lite.

The Talarians were a warp-capable humanoid species from the Talarian homeworld. They were native to the Alpha Quadrant and the name of their government was the Talarian Republic.

During the mid-24th century, the Talarians were involved in a series of small skirmishes with the United Federation of Planets, most notably the Galen border conflict, which lasted at least until 2357.

Yeah kind of wondering what the First Federation was like in the 24th century...was it a multi-species deal? Was it still technologically superior to the UFP? Where they considered one of the great powers of the Quadrant?
And would they have eventually taken action if the Dominion War (or the Borg) had expanded towards the territory? Or would they just have sealed their borders?
