LEGO Enterprise rumors

I've recently built the Lego ECTO-1 and BTTF de Lorean, both of which created fairly good display replicas of their prototypes. They also have sufficient moving features to modify their display appearance from time to time, which sort of compensates for them being a bit blocky.

But the Lego E-D just looks so rough and uninspired. It falls into the uncanny valley of not being good enough to be a display model ( might as well buy a snap-fit model kit and save a fortune ) but yet too fragile and expensive to be a toy.

I'm sure Lego will sell plenty of them, but I don't know what people will do with them once built.

People sre going to buy these for nostalgia and their love of both the ship and Star Trek. There's no other reason.

Part of the pricing is the licence fee itself I think, when you consider that models like Notre Dame have a lot more parts yet cost less than this set.

I do feel that people are missing the point a little - obviously if you want a faithful replica of the Enterprise-D, you can purchase several better options.

The point of this is that it’s a Lego Enterprise, and it delivers on that assignment. The fun is in building it, and watching it come together in your hands with interesting building techniques. As a display piece, it’s literally an Enterprise built out of Lego. I don’t know what else to say. If that’s not something you’d want to display, then clearly it’s an easy decision not to buy it.

There is an additional layer of fun afterwards, because it’s Lego and the possibilities are endless. I’m planning to customise mine with extra parts. I’m sure there will be aftermarket lighting kits too.

The price is high in absolute terms, but it’s standard for licensed Lego sets with this piece count. It’s in line with the Star Wars sets and actually better value than some of the Harry Potter and LOTR sets. I wish they’d gone for a lower price point to make it affordable for more people, but I guess there would have been trade-offs. They could have cut the minifigs and brought the price down quite significantly. Screw Paramount for demanding a Star Wars-level cut.

Personally I would have gone with the bridge, but I can’t blame them for making possibly the only Lego Star Trek set one of the two most famous Enterprises, and pushing the boat out with the minifigs.

Well some of their decision making makes no sense, a 90$ Falcon has all prints yet this set relies mostly on stickers, that makes zero sense

I would guess the print budget went disproportionately on the minifigs - Star Wars sets have a huge archive of existing designs to draw from. Their costs will also have increased, as costs for everything have gone up with inflation in recent years.

Still sucks though.
