I have a feeling that the Trek Lego leaks may in fact be the details of one of the losing contest entries. That would explain it - they're both 90s shows.

Ah, well then. I just figured it'd explain where the idea came from, for it to be so detailed if it had been a false rumor.

If anything it lends credence to the idea that Lego is working on Star Trek already, as normally you would expect something Star Trek in a contest like that.

It would sell. That’s reason enough to do it. I feel quite strongly that this is a likely true product but we will see.
