Legend of the Seeker anyone?

I just found out about this show an hour ago. I remember seeing the thread title a while back, but ignored it because I'm not really into fantasy and wasn't curious to see what this was all about. Anyway, I like what little I've seen and plan to check it out. It looks like it's a step up from Hercules/Xena.

Just saying, it's tough to raise awareness of something if you're not actually aware or familiar with that thing yourself. It's actually counter-productive.

For example, he talked about how the actress playing Kahlan was a perfect casting. People got excited, because he appears to be connected to the show, and thus inside info. How does he determine a perfect casting, though, if he's never read the source material, and thus really has no idea about the character outside of what he's seen or heard? Not a useful statement if all he meant was that the actress is hot, or looks kewl holding a sword. Being actually familiar with the series, the plotline, and the characters would have made his comments semi-credible. Knowing that he's NOT familiar with the material, well....

I am nearly done with the second book so I do have a good grasp of Kahlan's character. And the series, right now, is based on the first book. So I am more than familiar with the source material. I didn't mean to imply that I was unfamiliar, just that as it is such a huge undertaking to read eleven 900-page novels it's good to know where to finish! I've always been warned that around 6 or 7 it gets a bit much.

But as for Kahlan, she's pretty much as I imagined her. My opinion on her casting is just that. I think she's pretty hot too. (She was pretty charming on The View the other day. A show, by the way, I have never seen in my life. Honest.)

OK, 'nuff said. I hope people who are interested in the show watch. If you're not, don't. Or at the least, give it a try.

Premiering 7pm on KICU/KTVU in SF, okay I'll add it to my VCR. After I figure out what channel "KTVU" is (does anyone think of stations by their call sign anymore rather than network or number?)

This show sure hasn't been publicized much at all. Can they really only afford an internet shill?

I (unintentionally) dropped a nice promotion for the show today at work. A bunch of kids in the halls were discussing some fantasy book series they were reading, and I asked them if they've read the Goodkind books. Nothing but blank looks. So, I said (rather loudly) that I think it's a brand-new TV show now, too.

Nearly 100 high school kids walking by craned their necks to stare at us. "WHA?! TV? What's on T.V.?!" Which carried on to the next hallway over.

Buzzword: television. Gotta love it!

I've seen billboards all over town for it; I don't recall any print ads, but I could have missed them. I noticed lots of ads on the internet, though, most recently on Zap2It.

 It looks like the kind of show that would definitely appeals to kids! I bet they'd really enjoy the fantasy aspect of it. It's definitely the kind of show I would have gone for as a kid--and as an adult, so maybe not that much has changed.

For those familiar with Power Ranger Mystic Force and Jungle Fury there are two actors who will be in this show. I just spotted the actor that plays RJ and John Tui. Not surprising since this show is filmed in New Zealand.

^ Yeah, I noticed David de Lautour's name at the show's IMDb page.

Definately hot...

And here's her interview from The View.

Well... I caught the episode today and kept repeating.... hmmm. would i understand this if i had not read the book... all in all a good episode i think... i'm impressed with the amount of violence but lack of entrails spilling onto the ground... wasn't missed and i enjoyed it. it was a good first couple chapters of the first book.

It followed the book close enough to make me yearn to hear those three words richard holds dear....

Gratch love Richard....
:techman:

I watched the episodes and it was pretty good. I've been meaning to get started on a new fantasy series so I'll check out Wizard's First Rule.

Is The Sword of Truth series good?

Seems competent, slightly cheesy but not offensively so, but I just can't seem to get worked up over vanillla fantasy anymore which isn't really this show's fault.

While some of the writing was kind of bad and I'm not sure about the two leads acting ability, I enjoyed the episode overall and will continue watching.

I have used copies of the first three books. Guess I'll have to get to reading them.

I thought the pilot was okay.

I didn't hate it, except for the slo-mo camera work.

The story was really derivative, though. Eragon-level derivative. There were places where I said, "Oh, that's just like Star Wars," and still others where I said, "Oh, that's just like The Greatest American Hero." And I sort of see the series as turning into The Fugitive, with the questing party on the run and doing good deeds while doing so.

Not having read the book, I don't know how much the pilot was similar to the book and how much was different. (The credits interestingly read that the first hour was based on Wizard's First Rule, while the second hour was based on The Sword of Truth series as a whole.)

I liked the Celtic-flavored soundtrack. That was nice.

I may stick around for a few more episodes.

my wife watched it with me and has read all the books too... right after the sceens where's he's chopping wood with out his shirt... she murmers oh yeah... he's right for this roll.... although we both expected zed to be a lot skinnier and shorter... like the wizard who say's "he's not dead... he's only mostly dead"
