"Wizard's First Rule through Temple of The Winds, the first four books, are a good read."
Yes, and that is why I plan to follow the above.

What's wrong with people who are really excited about a new film or television series, who may never have read the books on which it's based or the older series on which it's derived? Some of the biggest fans of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings films are people who hadn't read Tolkien's novels. Some of the biggest fans of the upcoming Star Trek film will undoubtedly be people who have little, if any, familiarity with Star Trek. So, the "legendseeker" poster, who's trying to schill the series on a star trek board, hasn't even read the books? Really? that's pretty disappointing. Would think they'd at least send out people that knew something about the series.
Who better to start from viral buzz for a series than someone like LegendSeeker? He hasn't read the books, and he's excited by the series. He got me interested enough that I'm going to give the series a shot. I'll tip my hat to him; job well done, dude.![]()
Some very good points Allyn.
Actually, I only wanted to know which book to read up to. I'm in the middle of the second book (remember, these are like 800-900 pages) and am trying to see how many are worthwhile. One poster told me the first 6 were fine.
The show is getting people talking because, as Sam Raimi said, there isn't anything like this on TV.
Personally I think the show can only improve on the books. I would never recommend anyone to read the sword of truth books. The show will probably be much more enjoyable without having read the books. I think the show will probably be a light hearted quick paced action-adventure show, hopefully with some humour and it could be enjoyable.
I don't like the actor playing Richard Rahl as I always pictured Richard older, taller (after all we learn in the first book that Richard was taller then most men) and manlier but maybe his acting skills will make up for it.
If the show really follows the books it will be quite comical at times (evil chickens and so on)
I would not advise anyone to read the books though even if they will like the shows. Because the books just are not really good (stupid concepts, too moralistic, badly edited, repetitive, too violent etc)

Just saying that if I was planning something like this, I'd send out people with at least a passing knowledge of the product. You know, so there can be a halfway decent exchange of ideas, or in case there is a follow-up question, or anything else requiring more than a passing knowledge of the product you're trying to schill.
He sure seems to know the show/promotion, etc. which is probably enough. I don't think he's a one-man marketing campaign so much as just someone trying to raise awareness.
You know, you would think with a syndicated show, where getting good time slot is a big deal they would want to advertise the best time slot. Yet here in Albany, they are listing a 12:30am showing on Monday for CBS on their website. However, it also airs 8PM Saturday on our CW, (our CBS and CW stations are owned by the same company) about as good a syndicated time slot as possible. After finding out this time, I will actually be able to watch the show this week.
