Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One
Wow.
And also - how much do you normally hear folks get critical of the crux of the third act being in the promotion for a film? Here, 90% of the promotion has been THE hinge on which the third act turns and it being so prominently advertised actually accentuates the viewing experience. Because - once Tom's on the bike it feels like an eternity of tension before he gets to the top of the hill. And everything which is happening to everyone else in the meantime just builds and builds and builds the tension so, so well. You're almost willing him to get on with it so the tension can break! It wouldn't work so well if they hadn't said "look at this cliff jump" so much - and then they really make you wait for it. In the best way. It is brilliantly deft.
Agree with you. I actually felt this movie lived up to the hype, and there was lots of it due to the fact they were promoting the heck out of it with the stunt-making. And so many of the stunts had me wondering how they'd done it. Really fun movie. I was grinning all the way through it.
