Last movie you saw?

"The Martian": I don't get what all the fuss was about.
It's essentially "Cast Away" where the guy is alone on another planet instead of a deserted island and he compensates for the situation by making wise ass videos. It only works if you find Matt Damon engaging and funny enough to carry most of a movie by himself.

I don't think he'd look that good after 18 months on a potato diet. He'd look like the people that have been freed from Auschwitz at the end of WWII.

You're probably right, but I think they did okay making him look gaunt in his final days in the habitat.

Was that the only thing that bothered you?

No, but I am sort of fussy about these details. Like the storm on Mars shouldn't have been that violent, in fact, it shouldn't have been violent at all. Atmospheric pressure is an element determinant in the power of a storm and on Mars it's very weak. The worst storm on Mars is equivalent to a light breeze on Earth. Of course with a light breeze, you'd have no movie.

However, that's not why I didn't like that movie so much. I didn't find it very entertaining, borderline boring at times. But that's the thing, when you're bored it gives you time to think about those things!

Solo. I’m not sure why it did so badly; it seemed like an enjoyable enough SW movie.

Admittedly, the reveal at the end confused me a great deal... I had to do some Googling the next day to find out what was going on there!

Mary Poppins Returns. It was respectful to the original movie. I liked it but it was a bit dragged out in the middle.

It did drag a bit. The animated segment and lampost song could have been shortened. Also, might have something to do with it being set during the Depression, but we felt it was darker in tone than the first. For example, the chase scene in the latter part of the animated segment could be scary for children. Thankfully by the middle of the movie, things seemed to start to lighten up.

The twist at the end, you mean? If it's what I think you mean, yeah, it threw me for a loop and I don't think it was a great idea seeing as a mainstream public likely wouldn't be aware of said character still being alive.

Went to see Escape Room earlier tonight. Didn't care for the way it started or ended, but the rooms the characters have to go through were pretty entertaining.

I’m not sure I’d call it a twist per se, but yes, that’s what I was referring to. Sorry, I was just trying to be deliberately vague for the benefit of those who haven’t seen it yet. :)

Yeah, I realized that and I was trying to do the same. It's not that easy while still trying to find words to express it without being overly specific. Anyhow, I felt that particular moment came out of nowhere, as there was no precedent. And it's not like it added anything to the story anyway.

My DVD of Captain America: The First Avenger. Not a great film, but it is one of the better period pieces out there.

Did you understand it, because i was totally clueless watching it.
It felt like the film wanted to have an epic ending and got some inspiration from 2001: a space odyssey...
...but it wasn’t epic, it was just confusing. From what I gathered the characters were either in an endless loop where the AI tried to recreate a series of events in order to perform a Turing test. Or it killed the entire human race for the first time and used the main character as a template for a new AI race to replace humans. I’m not sure which. Or if it actually meant to convey something entirely different.

To be honest I had great trouble understanding 2001: a space odyssey.

Not the beginning or the part about Hal going crazy and murdering the crew... That part I got... It's the ending I have some problems with...

I *think* I do, but I'm not sure I have the words. Maybe that means I don't.
