Actually that is quite an interesting and clever way around it. Although having genius parents doesn't guarantee a child will be exceptional it certainly has all of the nature and nurture factors in its favour. Stephen Hawking has three kids. Lucy went to Oxford and is a journalist, Robert is a products engineer for Microsoft and timothy Hawkins went to Birmingham university and is an executive with Lego. You look at that and most people go "yeah that makes sense" even the "least" successful (I hesitate to say that) is a university educated exectuve.Well I think the idea there is her parents were smart enough to be allowed to work on Vulcan in the first place.
We haven't heard of her. That doesn't mean that nobody in Spock's life never heard of her. This whole idea of Spock having yet another sibling that nobody has heard of (after 50 plus years of ST) is lame. Maybe it will work out, but it seems little more than fan service to me.
They did say she excelled at the Vulcan Science academy, so I suppose she's smart.
Super-smart though? I don't think they ever said that. Do people need to be super-smart to excel at the Vulcan Science Academy? I guess that depends on what the definition of "super-smart" is.
I feel like it's doing more harm than good. I was really excited for Discovery before this news popped up.
What news? It's been known for months that Burnham is Sarek's adoptive or foster kid or something along those lines.
Well, at the time I'm sure it was their intention for it to be Spock.Unless Michael's transitioning, I'm guessing the wedding of Sarek's son - that Picard once mentioned attending - was Spock's.

- taps numbers into a calculator app -Sarek was a player.
Vulcans have never been shown to be more intelligent than humans, but I would concede that Vulcans have a much more focused intellect. However, that focus does not need to be genetic, but rather something that is honed through their way of life.If kid-Spock's schooling session in ST09 is any indication, I think the vast majority of humans would not be able to keep up with Vulcans when it comes to sheer intellect. A PhD from an Earth university is probably like passing one course in a Vulcan middle school.

Yeah, TNG shows that in the future, ten-year old humans will learn calculus. Too bad today's education systems aren't of that caliber.Vulcans have never been shown to be more intelligent than humans, but I would concede that Vulcans have a much more focused intellect. So if Burnham is a relatively intelligent person, and she was raised/mentored by Sarek to have a very focused intellect, then she would be very much like any relatively intelligent Vulcan.
If Spock can have a long lost brother that no one knows about for decades then him having a foster or adopted sister is no stretch at all.
At the next reboot they should make Spock an identical twin.
