Kirk "rejects and denounces" The Wrath of Farrakhan!!

While his gestures are a tad broad (as they often are), I think Jim Carrey has some of Shatner's vocal inflections down pat. Wayans is an okay Spock though he probably should have pitched his voice lower; and his line about being a better director is rather funny.

Yeah, really 'funny' skit that Marlon & Keenan came up with-NOT! More like really stupid and full of shit (why can't they make fun of rappers/R&B stars and most black sitcoms the same way?) They're more full of crap, and more deserving of a put down than Star Trek was or is. Plus, the skit's as infamous as the 'Get A Life' skit from SNL.

I'm an Afro-American, I didn't laugh then, and I'm still not laughing now. I hate Farrakhan's greedy guts all to pieces, and the Wayans brother's letting this genocidal asshole get off scott-free from parody while going after Star Trek only shows how fucked up the world is, and how scared they must be of the NOI, as well as being enthralled by that bullshit Million Man March.

BTW, here's an article on Farrakhan's so-called 'great organization for the Black man'-

How do you figure he's greedy? He's not doing this for money. Yes, I'm a follower of Min. Farrakhan and have been for nearly 20 years. I really don't care what that article says. The article you posted is total B.S. There's nothing B.S. about Min. Farrakhan. But this is not the board for such a debate.

Not to mention, this was 1990, what black sitcoms were there to parody? The Cosby Show? The Jeffersons? Good Times? I can't think of anything else so if I missed a show, let me know. Not to mention, back then, there were more rappers putting out positive messages than the crap that came out in subsequent years. Public Enemy, Run DMC, Salt N' Peppa(sp), and Queen Latifah (yeah, she's been around that long) were very decent, and very hard hitting with their message, so what exactly are you trying to say here?

I'm not a follower of Farrakhan, nor do I agree with any of his arguments, but I would think twice before slamming a brother on a board where SOME people are rather quick to jump on any bandwagon that dumps on a black man, particularly when it's spearheaded by another. Who put out that article anyway? Shame on you Dusty Ayres!!!

I remember the skit too. I chuckled, and I moved on. And if I remember that show correctly, the Wayans went after everyone - so even the shows and people I mentioned above were parodied. No one who was anyone was untouched. Those issues had been talked about for years, and the play on the name was unavoidable. I was glad they thought enough of Star Trek to include them on the show.

How is it a put-down of Star Trek? It's a joke. The 'Get a Life' sketch was also just a joke (albeit a spot-on one given your overreaction). Clearly they're very knowledgeable of the show and fans to go into that kind of detail on the sketch.

You need to not take things so seriously. They used Farrakhan because his name had Khan in it and because it fit with the type of humor they did on the show. That's about it. They weren't going for some deep philosophical criticism of his movement in the silly Star Trek parody.

Actually, it was back in 1989-1990 when rappers started getting "all criminal," which is why M.C. Hammer lost his popularity in the early-1990's.

Yeah, I know that. But there were plenty more rappers and Hip Hop artists with positive messages at that point - Arrested Development had yet to put out their album. And Hammer was hardly the first - NWA with Ice Cube and Dr. Dre, and Ice T are given the credit as the instrumental voices in the development of gangsta rap. Hammer didn't fit the profile of a gangster - that's why his popularity faded - Ice Cube and Ice T are still around.

But the Star Trek skit was funny...thanks for posting it.

^^^

It's actually Barack Obama we should give credit towards. The man really turned his life around, and his message of hope and unity is a lot more positive and forthcoming than that of Louis Farrakhan and his ardent followers.

^^^^^

You misunderstood me. I agree with you on the Obama thing (although I voted for Clinton) - but what does he have to do with music? I thought you were talking about rap in your last post - hence the NWA/Ice T reference. And while I don't follow Farrakhan, his message is keeping some black men off the streets and out of jail, and we can all be thankful for that.

Do you want to get into this here? I suppose we could start another thread or PM, but I tried to steer the final statement of my last post back to the point of the thread, the In Living Color skit.

Dude, if discussing that got me on track with a good, career-oriented job and countless dates and misadventures with sweet Sonia...yeah, I'm all for it! ;)
