I don't understand why it's so important to people, and I hope they keep it deliberately vague as to which timeline it takes place in.
I think it's just a case that different people like different things or it's simply a case of preference. It also could be that people have different levels of involvement or personal investment in regards to Trek as a complete narrative. Some might like things to fit together as much as possible while others couldn't care less if it fits together at all.It shouldn't make any difference as long as they tell good stories, but we are Star Trek fans, and for some odd reason there are fans who get very concerned if things are different than we expect, hope or want.
Just show an elderly USS Kelvin, alive and well, getting decommissioned. No Nero incident...prime confirmed.
That was one of my three requirements. The others were give me cool sets* and a new uniform I can wear without looking like a complete idiot.Me? I'm just in it for the starships, regardless of when or where...![]()
Those who dislike the prime timeline will want DSC to be in Kelvin (or its own) timeline, and despite the producer saying otherwise, they won't be shaken from it.
In the end, every fan will place the show in whatever timeline they want.

And those who prefer the prime timeline will believe the announcement that DSC is prime.
It's simultaneously win-win (since every fan gets the timeline they desire) and lose-lose (since there will never be agreement).
No matter how explicit any mentions are, there are those who absolutely will not accept them under any circumstances.
Even if, as has just happened, the producer of the damn show says it's in the prime timeline. Some fans refuse to believe it. I have no explanation for this stubbornness.![]()

Not necessarily Prime. Just not Kelvin timeline.
Just like how George Lucas can tell us that the prequels are part of the same continuity as the good films, and some fans refuse to accept stupid garbage from a man determined to shoot himself in the foot.

Doesn't make it untrue, just means you disagree with it.

There's no truth involved - just opinions. One cannot disagree with truth.
And if I think that Kirk is a Denebian slime devil, well, that's my opinion, too. There's no truth involved - just opinions.
Starfleet could be invaded by Saucermen from Mars and I'd watch it.What if discovery were set in the antiverse. Would anyone watch? I would
Are you a time traveler from the Beforetime? Because the new President would like to have a word with you.One cannot disagree with truth.
