Kelvin Timeline all but confirmed

I don't understand why it's so important to people, and I hope they keep it deliberately vague as to which timeline it takes place in.
It shouldn't make any difference as long as they tell good stories, but we are Star Trek fans, and for some odd reason there are fans who get very concerned if things are different than we expect, hope or want.
I think it's just a case that different people like different things or it's simply a case of preference. It also could be that people have different levels of involvement or personal investment in regards to Trek as a complete narrative. Some might like things to fit together as much as possible while others couldn't care less if it fits together at all.

Me? I'm just in it for the starships, regardless of when or where...

If they wanted, they could just name-check the Kelvin NCC-0514 getting orders in subspace radio chatter, a la the two FJ scouts in TMP at Epsilon IX, but even less conspicuously. That would cost (practically) nothing.*

* - AFAIK.

That was one of my three requirements. The others were give me cool sets* and a new uniform I can wear without looking like a complete idiot.

I'm happy on all counts.

(* edit: I wrote ships. Can't have that twice! :p)

Those who dislike the prime timeline will want DSC to be in Kelvin (or its own) timeline, and despite the producer saying otherwise, they won't be shaken from it.

For me, at least, it has nothing to do with disliking the Prime timeline. Just watched three episodes of Enterprise the day before yesterday. I just feel it is time for a clean slate.

In the end, every fan will place the show in whatever timeline they want.

Those who dislike the prime timeline will want DSC to be in Kelvin (or its own) timeline, and despite the producer saying otherwise, they won't be shaken from it.

And those who prefer the prime timeline will believe the announcement that DSC is prime.

It's simultaneously win-win (since every fan gets the timeline they desire) and lose-lose (since there will never be agreement).

And if it turns out to be explicitly not the timeline they wished for? Will they not tune in? I get the sense that this is the insinuation made elsewhere, and I find that possibility baffling.

No matter how explicit any mentions are, there are those who absolutely will not accept them under any circumstances.

Even if, as has just happened, the producer of the damn show says it's in the prime timeline. Some fans refuse to believe it. I have no explanation for this stubbornness.

Why do you care how I choose to interpret the material?

But Kirk should be well out of the Academy by the time Discovery takes place. Or did I get my time line wrong?

^ No, you're right. Kirk will be in his twenties so I'm sure he's long since graduated.

In fact at the time of DSC, Kirk is probably on the Farragut, with the associated disaster just waiting to happen...

Just show an elderly USS Kelvin, alive and well, getting decommissioned. No Nero incident...prime confirmed.

Not necessarily Prime. Just not Kelvin timeline.

Just like how George Lucas can tell us that the prequels are part of the same continuity as the good films, and some fans refuse to accept stupid garbage from a man determined to shoot himself in the foot.

Doesn't make it untrue, just means you disagree with it.

Even if you personally don't consider Discovery or the Star Wars PT as part of their respective franchises, they still are, that is a fact.

If we take Lucas' word for granted we might as well believe him when he claims there's a fourth Indiana Jones film.

What if discovery were set in the antiverse. Would anyone watch? I would

Did I stumble in to the "Religion" thread? We're now discussing truth? O_o

Starfleet could be invaded by Saucermen from Mars and I'd watch it.
