The latest revelations from Carpenter are no surprise at all; despite some people breathlessly tried to defend Whedon with "he's not all bad" arguments, he had a reputation an abusive personality/serial adulterer for a very long time (and Carpenter has claimed he mocked her faith as well). That is the kind of sickening, bottom-dwelling creature he is, and if there was ever going to be any consistency/integrity in how the entertainment business handles this (yeah, sure) Whedon will need to look for another line of work, but I doubt he will ever find himself completely out of the business.
...and Carpenter's support for Fisher is a welcome development, considering all of the attacks he's suffered by those trying to deny his entire claim / defend Whedon.
