Just Watched “What We Left Behind”. Why is HD DS9 footage in 16:9? Is CBS interested in HD DS9?

Enough to justify the cost?

Because earlier you stated that DS9 and VOY are already costing them money. So this is money on top of money as a loss in theory to maybe someday gain something, not because of market demands but government demands.
CBS is basically giving the series away for free right now, they are getting a tiny amount, but nowhere near what they are getting for TOS-R and TNG-R or Enterprise and the new series. Just as an example, CBS could charge $85,000 for a 30-second ad in TOS-/TNG-R, (Grey’s Anatomy currently demands about $207,000 and Young Sheldon about $161,000 and the new Quantum Leap commands about $122,000 per 30 seconds right now for national ads) right now, however same time space in DS9 or Voyager, they might only be able to charge $1,000 or less per 30 second ad. However, both series left the airwaves in 1999 and 2001 in the black and for the first 10 years or so Paramount/CBS could charge $10,000 or more per 30 seconds, and still be showing a profit on the books right now. Also it depends on the time of day the program is aired. If it’s aired at 2 a.m., CBS might only get $5 dollars per 30 second commercial, for DS9, whereas 2 p.m. could be $1,000. https://adage.com/article/media/tv-...4:24:success:62A42F7FD6F589EB7AD3553CBB285D55

Based upon, what exactly?

All of this sounds very nice but at this point in time there is zero proof the market demand is there. Just spitballing numbers that may or may not be accurate for what CBS could or could not do.
Paywall.

Babylon 5 is getting a blu-ray release. The complete series will have an SRP of US$99.

I'll be curious to see the reviews when it comes out.

Of course, the series was originally produced and finished in SD resolution only. But its live-action footage was shot on film, so that’s been scanned in 4K and downsampled to HD, while the CGI and VFX shots have been upsampled to HD from SD. But if you’ve seen the series recently as it appears on the Max streaming app, you’ll be familiar with the quality. (Note that it’s presented in the original 1.33 broadcast aspect ratio, and will include English SDH subtitles.)

I don't have the Max streaming app so I'm not sure how to take that.
