Okay...where to start...

First of all, no, they are not the "original" characters...this is an alternate universe...if there really were multiple universes, and some of them had copies of me, then those "mes" would't be me...one could argue that if they were truly identical, they'd share my DNA, but my DNA is not the totality of my existence...my conciousness, my ego/id/superego, my psyche, soul, whatever...we'll just say my personhood, is shaped by more than genetics...so therefore, we can see how differently Kirk (Alternate) has developed from Kirk (Prime)...same DNA, different environment.

If Spock Prime can enter the Alternate Universe and exist in the same space as his Alternate counterpart, then they are clearly not the same person...one could liken it to cloning or identical twins...perhaps the best term then would be similiar, not
identical..

By the way, this isn't a bad thing...this opens doors for more stories to come, rather than re-hashes of old TOS episodes that we already know the ending to!

Here's something to think about when people start talking about how the people and things in this film look different....how do you explain the Animated Series? Why do Kirk, Spock and the rest look so drawn during those adventures? Why did they stop moving so much and use the same expressions time and again?

YES Kirk is the same because I think there can only be one Captain Kirk and we already know he has a dad called George and lives in Iowa and Old SPock would be able to tell he was the same when he mind melded. But he DIDN'T mind meld with anyone else!

Ok, then Spock just HAPPENS to be just ANOTHER half-Human/Vulcan, son of ANOTHER Ambassador Sarek, and the same Kirk just figured out he might has well join this other crew since they had all the same names and it would be easy to remember?

I conceded that it is 99.999999999999999934% likely that Spock is the same Spock and Kirk is the same Kirk. Sadly it seems Scotty is the same now despite acting like a "tit" as soemone put it in this movie. Perhaps the destruction of the Kelvin warped (no pun intended lol) his personality somehow.

But there is NOT A SCRAP of evidence that Uhura and Sulu are the same people (according to reports in this thread Sulu was refered to as a different them of "Haiku".) The onus is NOT on me to prove that they are the same characters but on JJ Abraams and Bub Orci and the Other Guy to do so WHICH they did NOT do. Perhaps on the DVD.

They also didn't say that Kirk was NOT a mass murdering homophobic Klansman hell bent on sleeping with every 4 year old he sees. And yes, if you make a crazy claim, the onus is "on you" to back it up. A writer can't specify everything that is NOT part of the plot or character. That's just retarded.
