Just a STRANGE Movie

While all of Lynch's work tends to be strange, Mulholland Drive was among the strangest movies I'd ever seen. I had to go online after it was over to find out what the hell I'd just been watching - and found endless sites and essays dissecting the film.

As for Dark City versus The Matrix, I'm a fan of both films, but I'd respectfully suggest that they both delve into very similar themes - the nature of one's reality and Descartes' old philosophical question of whether reality can conflict with your perceptions of it. Now, the stories that they tell from those themes, and the style of storytelling, is quite different. Matrix was a balls-to-the-wall action sci-fi movie while Dark City is a much slower, noir-ish metaphysical thriller.

And Matrix certainly didn't "steal" anything from Dark City - those themes have been around for many years prior to the invention of the film projector.
