Just a STRANGE Movie

My strange one was a flick called Dark City.
I was browsing the new DVD section when I came across this Dirctors cut of this movie called "Dark City".

http://www.slashfilm.com/wp/wp-content/images/darkcitydirecorscut.jpg

Looking at the cover, it had a pretty decent looking sci-fi look to it so I picked it up and read who was in it.

KIEFER SUTHERLAND
WILLIAM HURT
RUFUS SEWELL
JENNIFER CONNELLY
IAN RICHARDSON

Gosh I know most of those names and it's only $11.00 lets give it a go.

BTW I never Blind buy Movies or games but figured the GF is coming over tonight nothings on the tube and she is a Kiefer Sutherland so what the heck.

What a piece of Shit, weird ass movie.
I'll never blind buy anything again.

Griffin Dunn.
Yeah, I kinda remember that film. Very odd. I was definietly into the adorable miss Arquette at the time.
I also remember Linda Fiorentino as Roseanna Arquette's roommate. After Hours was one of those comedies where it took a while for the funny to catch up with you, but at some point it just hit you how hilarious and absurd the whole thing was.

IMO, any movie made by Andriy Tarkovsky.

No one's mentioned Zardoz, yet? :vulcan:
Yes Zardoz was one weird movie. Since it's made in the 70s I forgive the confusing (I was 11 when I saw it) plot; but not Sean Connery's red outfit. :wtf:
Which, for some oddball reason, I have handy in my Photobucket account. Go fig. :D

Huh.. I think this movie is great, and far better than the Matrix which stole most of its ideas...

Stole most if it's ideas? :wtf:

The films were nothing alike....at all.

I remember seeing some weird movie a few years back on SciFi that mixed live action and CGI characters and was about some Egyptian god/alien possessing some guy so he could hook up with some blue chick, who lost her memory of the guy the alien possessed shortly after. It ended with the guy finding the girl on the Effiel Tower with her kid, which was a blue, shapshifting bird thing (I definitely know it was a bird for part of that scene) and reconnecting.

And the whole time, there was some weird pyramid floating over Central Park, which got quarantined for some reason (it left after the alien used to guy to knock up the blue chick). I looked it up on Wikipedia and found out it was made in France. I can'tremember the name, but I often wish it SciFi would play on the weekends to cut down on the SciFi Original suckfest.

Right, right, and John McCain wouldn't be a George W. repeat. And for the record, these are the first ever negative comments I've ever seen about Dark City. What a fantastic film.

I know a lot of people who are still stymied by the last 15 minutes of 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Yeah? Count me as one of them. Saw this for the first time a few years ago with a bunch of other students. Movie ended, lights went up, and the sound of people asking for the Coles' Notes version was heard.

Here's one not yet mentioned: low-budget time-travel affair called Primer. There's an incredibly scary graph where somebody tried to sort out all the timelines involved.

Audience: "What just happened? Which version of the character is this? When am I?"

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

yeah it was actually on some time last year. I saw part of it. I had no ideas wth I was watching.

Shady. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090003/

With such memorable quotes as:

"What do you think Jesus ment when he said 'Get thee behind thee'?"

and

"You let her eat coal; again!"

To this day I still regret letting my friend choose the movie that day.

"Dreamlover". Trippy, Eyes Wide Shut-ish James Spader erotic thriller/nightmare featuring TNG's Mädchen Amick. Bonus points: intermittent dream sequences featuring an all-knowing, creepy clown!

Are there movies out there, that you have seen, that are just...well...strange. You know, you see it, and you are left with the thought "What the hell was that?"

I saw one such movie YEARS ago when it came out. I had forgotten until it was on MAX HDTV last week or so. Its called AFTER HOURS. Its about some dude (played by Griffen Duhne?) who lives a nerdy life. He meets this girl at a diner (very cute and young Rosanna Arquett) and agrees to meet her at her house to buy one of her roomate's paper weights. Huh? Exactly my point!

Well..the next thing you know he is stuck in this crazy area of New York trying to stay out of the clutches of a crazy mob that thinks he has been breaking into their homes, stealing their stuff...

This movie is crazy, and yeah, most likely not SCIFI. But it has such as TWILITE ZONE feel to it, why not???

What strange movies have you seen that really defy all attempt to make sense of (Godzilla vs Gigan does not count!)

Rob
Scorpio

Well not Godzilla, but Japanese movies and shows don't always translate well. I recall something that was named Inframan in the USA that was like a ripoff of Ultraman (a slightly less odd Japanese SF staple). There were odd monsters, zombies, and lots of hopping around.

Edit: wow I actually found it on youtube. He has the deadliest elbows ever!

The Last Wave by Peter Weir.
Mulholland Dr. by David Lynch.
Lost Highway by David Lynch.
The City of Lost Children by Caro and Jeneut.
Pi by Darren Aronofsky.
The Navigator by Vincent Ward.

I know a lot of people who are still stymied by the last 15 minutes of 2001: A Space Odyssey.

I've seen The Navigator and 2001. To this day I have no idea what the endings of either of them were really about. :wtf:

One movie that really freaked me was Cube.

And somebody should have tried a lot harder to tell David Lynch that having rain at the end of Dune was a REALLY BAD IDEA (as was the pug dog). :scream:
