Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley developing Star Trek reboot for Paramount

The idea that Beverly Crusher got pregnant: she's a doctor in the 2th century. It didn't happen by accident. The idea that, in addition to that, she'd think her son was safer running around a lawless area of space than in Picard's comfy place on Earth: that's character assassination. The idea that dozens or hundreds of crew members can be killed and Picard only worries about his son: that's character assassination. Then there's the scene with Riker and Troi discussing the life they were living in one of the show's best episodes, "Nepenthe," and laughing at how stupid they were. More character assassination. Then there's the way they casually killed off a few old characters they could have done so much more with just to convince us things are bad.

The other big flaw in the third season of Picard is the idea that worked in The Wrath of Khan and never again: the idea that a Star Trek story needs a capital-v Villain. Looks like Starfleet Academy is about to make the same mistake, but maybe that'll be over by the end of the first season.
Season 3 feels exactly like it was intended: Matalas’ fanfic idea he generated years before which he could barely be bothered to revise so it would be consistent with the first two seasons.

Exactly. The pregnancy plotline alone is unevolved 20th century nonsense. Pregnancy is not accidental; you have sex you roll the dice on getting pregnant, period. The character assassination astounds me but more than that is the defense of these characters and their choices!

Even if she did get pregnant accidentally (which, as has been mentioned above, is pretty far-fetched), there's absolutely no reason why she should have kept it from Picard. Matalas tried the TWOK route of Crusher not wanting her son to follow in dad's Starfleet footsteps because of the danger, yet she ends up putting Jack in all kinds of danger herself.

Regardless, it's completely out of character for Crusher to have done these things.

IDK - They BOTH had a sort of Love/Hate/Guilt relationship for 7 years on screen; so maybe Beverly was in one of her 'Hate' cycles when she made the "I'll keep this from Picard" decision, then went into a 20+ year 'Guilt' cycle.
;)

Kassidy Yates became pregnant accidentally. And it was because Ben forgot to get  his injection. I'm not defending the decisions made about Beverly in Picard season 3, but the notion that she accidentally became pregnant isn't as ridiculous and far-fetched as some people in this thread are trying to make it out to be.

Crusher and Picard were a tad bit older than Sisko and Kasidy. Perhaps they thought being old would decrease the chances of an accident?
