Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley developing Star Trek reboot for Paramount

Mostly the assumptions are made by fans not actually paying attention to the dialogue.

This is any new Trek's greatest sin: violating fan expectations.

TNG: No Star Trek without Kirk and Spock! You bastards!
DS9: You can't have a Star Trek show on a space station! Fuck you!
Voyager: You can't have Star Trek without familiar aliens! You suck!
Enterprise: Why is it a prequel! Prequels suck! You think you're Star Wars or something?

That is why they need to listen to us fans. Let us guide them into making the correct choices. :)

If you listened to me, you would have no TNG.

Well their is lots of fans so it's more about picking what the majority wants. If they did that then they would be working on the would have been brilliant Legacy show now. Billions of fans across the globe would be waiting with anticipation of epic levels.

No. The characters, tech and organizations don't track. Nothing feels organic but wallpapered over.

What are you talking about?? The tech??? 😂 i guess you are forgetting that they had a view screen on the D....A window screen in DISCO and SNW and then a WINDOW screen in PICARD. Sane with the worker bee robots. They never existed in TOS-VOY. 😂

He had three relationships that went poorly.
Why would anybody want to bring that up in a conversation, or even talk about that?
Never mind a half Vulcan/half Human who is trying to keep his human half under control after those not-so-great experiences.

And then his biology forces him to once again confront one of those women who still finds him undesirable.
(well two actually if you count throwing the soup at Chapel)

Because Commodore Mendenze assumed that Kirk had never met Pike.
Nothing in that episode indicated he hadn't more than once.

You need to rewatch those eps. The onscreen dialogue and reactions do not match SNW. No matter how much you want to make it fit. It doesn't. The completely retconned it all.

Did you honestly think P+ was going air two shows featuring the Enterprise at the same time?

I knew this was not going to happen immediately. I also knew that Strange New Worlds would max out at five seasons.

It's called adding more backstory to a character, that's not it being "retconned".
It's additional information that we weren't aware of previously, Star Trek has been doing that pretty much since it started.

Hell, each individual show did it within their televised run.

It feels forced. I don't mind backstory but have it make sense with the characters virtues that were set up over 40 years.

They don't fit with other TOS episodes, either. No matter how much you want to make it fit. It doesn't.

Pike was never mentioned again in any other TOS episode nor T-pring. And Chapel and Spock was consistent throughout TOS. Never lovers just forbidden fruit..

That misses the point completely. If you think it fits then more power to you. It hasn't fit for me since TMP.

The difference is TMP was AFTER TOS and it could be seen as a natural progression. But if you stick DISCO and SNW in there it's all over the place. I'm not talking about set design either. Enterprise had a more detailed set but they didn't have holographic communication or fun house turbo lift interior etc....
