Jon Favreau to produce & write live action show

After all Disney has dealt with you think we'd have heard about it? I highly doubt it. Bob Iger is probably playing it closer to the vest.
A Star Wars movie released by the end of 2020 would need a solid year of post-production work, meaning principal photography would have to be done by late 2019, or about a year from now. That would require a lot of binding and expensive talent contracts to be signed by about now, and one can only keep a project of this size under wraps for so long. No, it's not impossible, but given Iger's slowdown comment and the lack of other news, a 2020 Star Wars movie is unlikely.

I have mixed feelings. On the one hand, the Clone Wars Mandalorians are one of the worst things SW ever did, and I'm including the prequels in general in that statement, so I don't really want a New Canon Mandalorian thing. On the other hand, at this point in the history of the SW Universe the idiot pacifists are long dead, and the other Mandalorians, while inferior to the pre-TCW old EU Mandalorians, are at least tolerable.

So, I'll wait and see. Hopefully it just will ignore (I don't mean it won't be canon, I mean it just won't matter to the show) all the TCW and Rebels bullshit and do its own thing. Sabine would probably be long dead by this point, anyway (yes, I know its only, what, 3-4 years between Rebels and RotJ, but a guy can dream that every Rebels created character but Hera died horribly offscreen). That said,m I doubt Sabine would be the main character of the show even if she was still alive and they decided to have her show up.

I was wondering that myself. Given Dave Filioni's (rumored) direct involvement, I would call it a possibility at the very least.
I'd be curious to see how they'd handle the casting if they do go that route. I mean of course Tiya Sircar is the obvious choice, except she really doesn't look at all like Sabine. Build, complexion, ethnic features are all off. So do they retcon the character's appearance, use make-up to get Tiya looking as close as possible (dicey, given it'll involve lightening her skin somewhat), recast, or attempt to pull a Maul and have Sircar dub over another actor's performance?

I suppose they could simply just have her keep the helmet on the whole time...

Of course if the rumour of Filloni directing is true, then it's seems slightly more likely that we'll also be getting Sabine's travelling companion in live action. It's also quite possible we'll get neither and this is simply Lucasfilm's way of grooming Filloni to direct a feature film at some point, or at least a live action show of his own.

Sabine Wren and Ashoka show up? OMG YES!!! with Thrawn and Ezra?? Doing a sort of Thrawn trilogy with mandalroians? ... ... .. SQUEEE!
Just have Tiya do it.. people know its her voice.. no biggie!

Rather they did it on something completely new.
This is new.

I just find it hard to believe they would do that for some reason.

Jesus Christ man. Why are you always so negative against things tou dislike? You treat everything you dislike like it hit something you love. That is no way to live.

Sabine has already been seen alive post ROTJ anyways, so it is too late.

Eh, I'm not sure about this, to be honest. I mean, I like what Clone Wars and Rebels has done with the Mandalorians, I'm just not sure about another lone gun Mandalorian badass. Especially since if the Boba Fett movie is still a thing. I'll wait and see, of course, but at the moment my attitude towards this show is guarded at best.
Sabine Wren and Ashoka show up? OMG YES!!!
Calm down, that's only speculation at this point. There's no real reason to expect Sabine or Ahsoka to show up.

Jon Favreau posted this on his facebook page

Sounds good to me. I enjoyed the Mandalorian stuff in TCW and Rebels, and I'm pleasantly surprised it's actually set after Return of the Jedi. I had just assumed this was going to be either before or during the Original Trilogy.

The series will be written and executive produced by Emmy-nominated producer and actor Jon Favreau, as previously announced, with Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels) directing the first episode. Additional episodic directors include Deborah Chow (Jessica Jones), Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), Bryce Dallas Howard (Solemates), and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok). It will be executive produced by Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson. Karen Gilchrist will serve as co-executive producer.

Yep, space western. Give him a huge hat and a longer cloak and he could be Clint Eastwood in a suit of Mando armor. The Mando with No Name.

They must have just posted that, because I was just on StarWars.com a couple hours ago and didn't see this.
That's a nice line-up of directors. Will this be Filoni's first live action directing gig?
I didn't know Bryce Dallas Howard was a director, I guess she really is following in her dad's footsteps.

I wonder if Waiti's inclusion means we can expect a fair amount of humor in the series?

Filoni doing the first episode says to me that he's at least partly there to help set the tone (directorially speaking) so the odds of a cameo from either Sabine or Ahsoka seems very unlikely. I'm a little surprised Favreau himself isn't directing at least the premier episode, given the nature of his involvement.

Two TaunTauns for Princess Leia?
A FistFull of Credits?
Alderaan Plains Drifter?
The Outlaw Boba Fett?
Mondo Rider?
Paint your Speeder?
The Good, the Bad, and the Mandelorian?

Wasn't there a rumour floating around at one point that they were looking to adapt the likes of 'Seven Samurai' & 'The Searchers' as Star Wars movies? I'm not saying that's what they're doing here with this show, but if it's a thing they want to do then it seems like the logical place to do it.
