Joker Origin Story Announced

I haven't fully trusted the media since the O.J Simpson circus. When news became entertainment. Which I guess has been around for awhile seeing it was main theme in "Network." Something that has gotten worst with FoxNews and clickbait stuff that thrives on social media. Even the old reliables like NY Times and CNN have had to get into the gutter to stay relivant. Jason

Seems that the President has filled you with hate for reporters and the media. You've been on an anti media and reporters binge for over a year now.

I've worked in that field, so more than most, I know the corruption of the news media, and it has absolutely nothing to do with the president, which some (not talking about you) obsess over as if they were just dropped here yesterday and knew nothing of this nation's history. The manipulation I point out has been a consistent problem for more than a half century, but some have their sociopolitical VR glasses on, so they do not see what was in plain sight longer than they've been alive.

Aside from that. what has happened with the news media's propaganda regarding the Joker movie and (ab)using tragedy as a political maneuver was quite real. Thankfully, it failed miserably.

Joker estimates for the weekend are now $60 million+, for a very small drop from opening weekend. This movie might end up doing double it's expectations, via its trolling and media triggering viral marketing campaign. Expect more of the same in the future.

Hopefully we will get more movies like it. The 70's and 90's was the golden age of movies. Jason

‘Joker’ $55M+ Scores 2nd Weekend October Record

Warner Bros/Village Roadshow/Bron Studios’ Joker easily set a second weekend October box office record with a 3-day of $55M, -43%, silencing the previous record set by the studio’s Gravity ($43.1M) back in October 2013.

Most of the town expected Joker to make in the low $40Ms heading into the weekend. Pic stands $7M shy of the $200M mark, which it will reach this week. Worldwide take is at a cool half billion, becoming Joaquin Phoenix’s highest-grossing movie of all-time (beating Gladiator‘s lifetime of $460.5M), and currently the second-highest grossing for director Todd Phillips after The Hangover 2 ($586.7M) and Robert De Niro’s second-highest (soon to be his career record) after Meet the Fockers ($516.6M).

Don't know if I'll get to see this soon, but I'm generally just delighted to see it doing so well.

Watched it. It's a good film that actually works better without its Batman related elements which often appear forced and shoehorned in. It's also hard to imagine this version of the Joker as Batman's nemesis or being any sort of major threat which sort of undermines its purpose as an origin story for the character.

Meh; Vito Corleone started out stealing a carpet. ;)

He's a nemesis to Batman because of the madness he inspires, not because of anything he does himself.

If they did Batman he would use guns and he and Robin could be like that black serial killer who went around with his son randomly shooting people. Jason

They already did it

So I was thinking, what if Joker 2 has Batman, but it's still from Joker's perspective. So Joker is just trying to get by in the terrible mental state we find him in at the end of his movie. He spends most of the movie just terrified of this giant Bat that might appear at any time and throw him off a building, and in some way its actually leading him toward committing more crimes.

Apologies if anyone has mentioned this, but the lack of a clear segue between Joker stood on the car admiring the carnage, and sitting in Arkham talking to the nurse could suggest
that everything we've seen is in Arthur's head, including the murder of Thomas and Martha, the killing of De Niro etc Maybe he's been in Arkham all along and has incorporated elements we saw of how he ended up there into his fantasy (maybe he did kill his mum and assault his neighbour?)

Have to say though, my favourite bit involves that huge staircase.
Day after day we see Arthur trudging up it, a broken man struggling against society. When he becomes Joker he dances down the staircase (a literal descent into madness?) finally at ease, finally understanding who he is.
Every time I see Phillips interviewed he appears to be a colossal dick, but damn that was fine filmmaking.

The idea of doing one without Batman in it doesn't sound right to me. To me he is required for the creation of the Joker.
