No I get it. "I don't want my fragile national pride hurt".
BTW nothing wrong with a British or Scottish Superman. They would need to tweek the origin story but who cares.
Nah, think it was very much @Jedman67's trademark ambiguous sarcasm

I'll rephrase- I'll give anyone a chance but if they sound American or Australian, I think they'll have just that more difficult a job in persuading me that they're The Doctor.
What's all this nonsense about the Doctor having a British accent?
The Doctor does not have a British accent. The Doctor has an alien accent that just happens to sound like a British accent.
Multiple Bonds are canon, "This never happened to the other guy", stated Lazen-Bond.
But a female or non-white Doctor would have the same problem.

I don't agree at all. I think the Doctor's always been very much an asexual character whose skin colour has never been important. However, to date, there's always been a very British eccentricity, sense of humour, even his dress sense has usually been quite anglocentric.
I disagree, look at Christopher Eccleston. It was modern and not very eccentric. Also it looks like they aren't going to crazy with the look of the new Doctor like they did with the Master.
The Doctor Has to be either British, Scottish, or Irish (I would include in there Welsch) but that is the inherent charm of the show, it is Brit culture in space, always has been, the logo is a British Police box.
I get the impression that a non-British Doctor would be even more blasphemous than a female doctor to a lot of fans.
I'm not even British myself, so I've no dog in this fight but if the Doctor suddenly was played by Ryan Gosling or Russell Crowe using their own accent, it just wouldn't feel right to me..
I'd agree. Unlike gender, I do think the Britishness is an integral part of the show's charme.
You could of course cast a Pakistani immigrant in the role because that's Britain, too.![]()

Americans were once British.
Certainly not all of them. Not even close.![]()
