I always though Piccard's family was from Normandy. I hear they have British accents.
Are they also into tea and quoting shakespeare there?

I'm a Francophile who is currently holidaying in south-west France. However, I can imagine no circumstances in which the BBC would cast a French actor as the Doctor and that's before one even considers Brexit and freedom of movement. So again, we're having a debate which is verging from hypothetical to fantastical.
You have a HUGE chip on your shoulder about the fact the the latest incarnation of a fictional shapeshifting alien is going to be played by a woman. You have thrown a multi-page meltdown "like a snowflake" over "just a TV show" that you claim you're not even going to watch anymore (though I don't buy that for a second). For Christ's sake, get some perspective and self-awareness of your behavior. You're embarrassing yourself.Wow, sounds like some people then have a HUGE chip on their shoulder.. it's a TV show. not a politically motivated Document or politician that controls your life. doctor who has always been diverse.. but the main character apparently has to be included in that lest others go into a meltdown like a snowflake.
Many French people like Tea and quote Shakespeare just like many Brits drink coffee, have affairs and quote Victor Hugo. Are they also into tea and quoting shakespeare there?
Might be from that hole in the ceiling. There seems to be a lot of that going around in this thread.![]()
People said the BBC would never hire a woman and what's wrong with hypothetical. First there is going to be a new doctor in 3 years. Second the BBC might want Doctor Who to be a global brand. Finally the argument against makes no sense. It's either I don't like it or I'm an Anglophile.

That would be true for urban areas like London. Most of the UK is pretty white. America too.

Once again, I have to point out my earlier post:A woman doctor has been discussed for as long as I can remember and we're discussing it now because it's happened.
Indeed. Sydney Newman (you know, the guy who created Doctor Who) suggested Joanna Lumley back in 1986.
Yeah, to think the BBC would look outside of The UK, let alone the British Isles is pie in the sky thinking. Plus there are enough Middle and Upper Class actors to fill the role.
I can see it happening if the BBC joins up with Netflix/Hulu and they move production to the US to save cost.

That's a bloody big if. If they go into co-production with anyone it'll be BBCA.

You are unaware of The Daily Mash then?
That's the first time I've heard that.Wasn't her doing the part in Doctor Who and the Curse of Fatal Death used as an argument AGAINST having a female doctor. My point is that people have been asking for a female doctor for years but the BBC has been resistant until now.
Same here. In fact, I used it as an example of casting Joanna Lumley for awhile. She'd have been great. That's the first time I've heard that.
