Jodie Whittaker is the 13th Doctor

I never really watched much of classic Who, my introduction to Doctor Who was binge watching the Eccleston /Tennant/Smith years. Those were the best for me. While I warmed up to Capaldi, I think he did the best he could with the episodes he was given. I just don't think the writing was that great.

I think a woman Doctor is something that had to be done to keep things fresh. The bottom line is the stories have to be good. I'm looking forward to the change!

All this sexist broflake hysteria in people's posts and tweets is rather hilarious.
Well, having a 16 year old daughter, and a 10 year old girl, who watch the doctor who show, even they didn't like it When I showed it to them. They liked rather the idea of being a companion. But my preference even with women I love and want to see succeed. That makes me sexist..how childish has having a differing opinion become. People should stop with knee jerk labels. Sexist over here! Bigots over there! Anti-gay over there!

I literally only just heard of Jodie Whittaker this weekend with this talk of her becoming the Doctor. While I don't have much to go on, she seems a good choice, and I approve this casting.

Celebrating diversity does not mean we have to tolerate bigotry.
So having a different sexual preference is now bigotry? Better tell anyone transgender that or LGBTQ

People with sexist opinions are sexist. People like you.

I'm sure the sexist opinions and attitudes expressed by their dad don't affect that at all. ;)

While I wish Peter could have one more season, I am rather excited about a female doctor. I haven't seen Jodie in anything, but I had not seen the other actors in anything, so I'm excited to see her first episodes.

I'm transgender, I'm not sure what that has to do with Doctor Who or your delusions. But this isn't sexual preference, that's related to sexual attraction. If you can't watch a character because they're a certain gender, you're sexist and bigoted. The Doctor is an alien who changes forms over his/her life and the canon of the show has established that changing gender is fairly common and Time Lords don't think much of it.

Your argument is confusing, it's like you're scrambling to justify this in anyway but you don't have one that makes more sense than girls are yucky.

It's sexist because you are condemning the character based on her gender alone. It's the very definition of sexism.
If you didn't like how she performed the role, fine. But saying it's rubbish because it's a woman?
So again, gender preference is sexism? Does the LGBTQ community know this standard now?

Well. If you weren't being sexist, we wouldn't use that label.

Maybe those girls would really like to see a female Doctor, rather than always being the sidekick.

You should ask them what they think.

I thought we celebrated all diversity, but not of thought I guess.

Ah, the old "you have to tolerate my intolerance or you are intolerant" chestnut.

Here's the deal, snowflake...we don't have to agree with your asinine opinions or even allow the to go unchallenged. Yes, you have a "right" to share them as much as we have the right to share ours, but this whole "dumb libs don't tolerate me, smug ha ha because fail" line of thinking really hurts your brand. If that was the definition then tolerance would not exist.

But of course you knew that. You also don't really care about tolerance, because your thoughts.

We let you share your stupid, stupid, stupid thoughts. That's tolerance. We don't allow you to share those in a vacuum bereft of consequences. That's what "tolerance" is.

TL:DR: Look up the definition of "tolerate".

You've got one more chance before I start Godwinning this whole damned thread.

Well, just came home, heard the news from a friend, and I knew straight away that this was gonna escalate.

I think it's important to realize that people have different opinions. Some people simply be sexists. Other simply prefer the idea of the Doctor being male, not because they are sexist but because they have a certain concept of the character. Calling these people sexist is downright wrong. They're not disliking it because they hate women, they have a certain asociation with The Doctor.

To me, there has always been something avuncular or grandfather like to the Doctor, and I've always asociated that with a man. So having a female Doctor will be kinda weird for me. But in the end, I judge on both character and acting. I saw that little video just now of the new Doctor walking through the forest and the key appearing in her hand. There was something quite amazing in her eyes that made me quickly like this version of the Doctor, so I'm pretty optimistic about her character sofar. As for the acting, I haven't seen Jodie in anything ever, so I'm going to have to watch some stuff with her or simply wait for the new season to start.
