I never really watched much of classic Who, my introduction to Doctor Who was binge watching the Eccleston /Tennant/Smith years. Those were the best for me. While I warmed up to Capaldi, I think he did the best he could with the episodes he was given. I just don't think the writing was that great.
I think a woman Doctor is something that had to be done to keep things fresh. The bottom line is the stories have to be good. I'm looking forward to the change!
