Jodie Whittaker is the 13th Doctor

While I would have been excited if Hayley Atwell got the part (wasn't she enthusiastic about the chance to play the Doctor) I'm excited about this choice. I don't know Whittaker but the show will definitely be new now instead of being stagnant like it has been for a few years. I thought I was done after season 10, but I'm excited to come back to see how this plays out.

This might be the kick in the pants the show desperately needed.

She was fucking phenomenal in Broadchurch, even the atrocious season 2.
I've just looked her up - the only thing I've seen with her in it is Attack The Block, and I have no recollection of her from that.

Happy she's a good actress, happy to give her a chance !

I just hope all those people who said they'd stop watching if a woman was cast follow through. I'm sure we'll be back to a bloke next time round.

And can I just say thank Zod for this forum which is pretty much the only place I know where you can talk about Doctor Who without being overwhelmed by the worst of the Internet.

Totally not watching. Not even gonna pretend to be optimistic. Worst idea ever. Not a fan. It's all about SJW quotas these days. Oh well. Would have liked to see what could have been done. Looks like the death of Docotor Who. But that's just my prediction. If ratings are low, I expect lots of "sexism" to be the excuse. Sigh...soooooo tired of the SJW crap.

I suspected we would get an actress for the role, happy with the choice, might actually give Broadchurch a go...

Might not be final. Remember, this was our first look at Matt Smith, and the Internet imploded in panic that Doctor Who had gone Twilight:

True, but hair color is a big difference from haircut. I don't expect the costume to be the same as the video, but hair color is a bold statement. Has she been in some project recently where her hair is blonde?

Yes, casting a woman is totally "SJW crap."

Oh, wait, no, it isn't. Keep this bullshit out of here. Please explain how this is the "worst idea ever."

I'm waiting.

I love it! She was great in Broadchurch, and I hope this breathes a little life into the show.

This is why we can't have nice things. Please, tell me what "SJW crap" is?

You know, I watching The Tenth Planet the other night, and this just seems odd in a really nice way. I'd have never cast a woman (not being a sexist here, its just not how I'd do it) but I'm GLAD Moffat's not writing her and that she's part of a whole new team. On that note, the revamp makes sense.

Deziel and Pascoe here and same.

What such a hilariously hysterical opinion that is and so utterly bollocks.

I personally think it's brilliant of Auntie and can't wait till next Easter to see her in full swing as The Doctor.

Please, tell me what "SJW crap" is?

My sisters initials for one!

But it's used by individuals (often, if not always men) who belief that standing up for equality and equality in general is a bad thing.

Bye, then.

I'm not happy. Seems a bit "bowing to pressure" for me.

OTOH...

I was against Donna Noble being the companion for a whole season after the Xmas ep, and that turned out pretty bloody good, so the only logical thing to do is give her a go, as I would with anyone on the role. I hope to be wrong.

<pause for thought> Could actually be quite interesting.

You know, this reaction reminds me of the die-hard fans of OldWho that "hate" RTD's Who and so on and say the old ones are much better. OK, then. I dislike Moffat's run, but its not worthless. And besides, its still the Doctor as the star, so... yeah.

Go on, Doctor. Change genders, old man. Spruce up your travels again. Besides, if she doesn't work out, they can always make the Doctor a guy again.

1. Glad it's not Marshall.

2. Figured if Moffat had his way it would've been a woman, wasn't sure if Chibnall would be willing to make this his first decision.

3. So he went for a Broadchurch alumni after all (meaning she'll be the 3rd of that cast to have played The Doctor).

4. Younger and prettier than I might have expected from a female Doctor but she's a fine actress, so I've no problem with her casting.

5. Looking forward to seeing how this goes.

She has confirmed that her appearance in the trailer is not her costume - so we can't guarantee she'll play Thirteen as blond.
