I loved it - although I didn't realize THIS was the series finale until after watching it (I thought they had 8 eps instead of 7) - still though, they left it at the Eye of Storm, the calm before the major fuck-uppage thats coming, and I loved it. Jericho is going on my favourites list, I'd be more than happy to see a 3rd series on Sci Fi (but given they're utter retardation of late I don't expect that to happen), but am perfectly content with leaving it be.

Having said that though, what do we send the networks now? :p

One of the last lines was "You look like Crap" - Do we send steaming piles of it in now? :p

SPOILER ALERT!

WTF was that? They called that wrapping up? So they create an entire storyline about a man working behind the lines at J&R who wants to commit genocide. He gets shot and runs away killing an Asian guy who we have only know for 5 minutes. Hawkins becomes even more 2D. That was a terrible terrible episode. It was has if they were trying to prove to their fans that they should stay cancelled.

A 3.4/6 for the final episode. Marc Berman again lamented CBS's reluctance to change the timeslot to Wednesdays at 8pm.

Hell, they even shoved a quick pseudo-wedding in there. (I'm stunned you didn't puke at that, Bonz.)
Heh. I must be mellowing. I only rolled my eyes. I also thought, "Come on guys, there's not much time left in this show. Get ON with it already." Plus - I was waiting for the hottage that was Beck. (and I shamelessly liked his last scene with, uh, whatever her name is. God, I'm bad with names. Emily, Heather, they're interchangeable characters.)

When it comes to Hayseed boy, I got used to him. I even like him now in spite of him being a dumbass. Poor guy paid his dues. And Mimi has mellowed out and isn't quite the strident bitch.

This last bit of extra Jericho was so much tighter. They had less time to waste on stupidities and the stories were better. I didn't miss Dork boy, the Princess, et al, not a bit.

I am surprised they didn't outright kill off Hawkins.

Then again, the door is wide open for Jericho, either as a series, mini-series or a movie.

Man, I got goosebumps when the soldiers started stripping off the ASA flag patches at the end.... Chilling.

I'm definitely all for Jericho: Civil War II. That'd be AWESOME.

Original ending: TV Guide interview with Carol Barbee

TVGuide.com: Will viewers have any burning questions coming out of the alternate ending/series finale?

Carol Barbee: Let me see.... I can tell you that in the original ending, Hawkins has to sacrifice himself to let Jake get away with the bomb and get it to Texas so it can be tested and prove that they were telling the truth. Texas would then swing their support to Columbus and defeat Cheyenne.

TVGuide.com: Does Hawkins mortally sacrifice himself, or just let himself get captured?

Barbee: Well, he gets captured but he's also shot.... He's pretty messed up, and Jake feels like he's leaving him for dead. So we show you where he's taken and you see that the mission for the next season is, "We have to go rescue Hawkins and we have to stop these [bad] guys." When they see the alternate ending, it certainly completes the story from this season and tells you everything you need to know to have understood Season 2. It just doesn't point to that next mission. You meet John Smith, the guy who's been pulling the strings. It's [played by] Xander Berkeley (24). You've heard him on phone calls, and Hawkins is surprised by who he is and where he is. So you know who John Smith is, you know who planned the attacks, you know why, you know how....

TVGuide.com: Now it's just a matter of making things right in the United States?

Barbee: Right. We would have moved on to the next level of a civil war between the Cheyenne government and the Columbus government. But if your readers do have any more burning questions, let me know!

TVGuide.com: If Jericho does find a new home on another channel, will Season 3 work off the alternate ending or the original cliff-hanger edit?

Barbee: What we would do is take the information that is in the original ending, and that would be the opener for the next season. When we leave them at the end of the original ending, we've got Hawkins back and he's OK, but we still need to go fight the larger fight. I've always said that the alternate ending doesn't wrap up the series. It just lets you know that everyone is OK and it closes out this seven-episode arc. But we could definitely keep it going!

In the poll, I gave it a "C", but I came close to giving it a "B". I don't mind that everything wasn't wrapped up neatly, but I sure wish they would have had a little more time: Everything was just a little too rushed. Kind of ironic, considering that my main complaint in season one was that it was too slow-paced.

I'm going to miss drooling over Esai Morales- that guy is hot!

So what is Carol Barbee saying? Any new season we might get, will it pick up from the cliffhanger, or the version that aired? Which one is considered the "original" ending?

If it picks up from the cliffhanger, then how much is the aired version going to 'count'?

The original ending was the cliffhanger. I think what she's saying is that they will largely use elements from what would have been the original ending, and incorporate them into the season opener. However, they will still base everything on what we saw last night.

^ That's how I took it as well.

I think that Ashley Scott should have a new rule though for shows she's in. No Wednesdays at 8:00pm. This is the second Wednesday Night at 8:00 program that she was in that was cancelled (the first was Birds of Prey).

Whomever wrote the episode title must be a jaded New England fan. I literally read "Patriots and Giants" when I saw the thread title.

It's a reference to a historical quote (can't remember who said it, may be Thomas Jefferson) about how the tree of liberty must be refreshed occasionally, by the blood of patriots and tyrants.

Well, Hell Damn Crap!

I really loved this show. I thought it was awesome.

As a SEASON finale, I'd give it an A.

As a SERIES finale, I'd give it a B. So much left undone. So much story left to tell. I thought for sure Hawkins was going to die.

I guess the only thing left is to be grateful for the second season, and hope that somehow, someday, I hook onto a series that actually lasts....

:(

Loved the finale, gave it an A and the ideas of a season 3 or a TV movie would be good, especially with it levbing the door open for the next civil war and Beck's rangers defending Jericho now.

My only question about the eastern bloc is, why Columbus? New York didn't get bombed. Wouldn't that make more sense as the new capital?

I just assumed that last living cabinet member(s) happened to be in Columbus during the attacks. Besides, New York City would be a nightmare to maintain post-nuclear disaster. It's just too big. Columbus, by constrast, would give you a lot more flexibility (especially when it comes to food sources).

The biggest reason, though: I believe the map indicated that the nuclear fall-out from surrounding blasts would be particularly bad in New York City.

This was an excellent and satisfying conclusion to the show, much better than I expected.

Obviously there were some signs of rushing, but I can't fault them for that. It takes 30 seconds for them to get some Jericho to inside the heart of the enemy capitol. It takes 30 seconds for Gray to transport from Cheyenne to Jericho. The Texans talk about the difficulties of sneaking the bomb out from a 360 surrounded embassy to the enemy-controlled airport... next scene the plane is taking off! John Smith appears for 30 seconds, and gets the good ole' 24 style 'hero meets bad guy. hero shoots bad guy. bad guy conveniently escapes despite being at a disadvantage'.

Smith's lame appearance does make sense though. He was a lone nut with no minions. His only power was through manipulating others. When Hawkins realized what he was, Smith no longer had any minions, so to get the bomb out of the heart of the enemy capitol he would have to do it himself.

But I can forgive all that. This was a great ending.

We get Jake and Hawkins infiltrating the heart of the enemy capitol! We got the ingenious twist of driving into the Texan embassy (did anybody see that coming? or am I just dull-witted?). We've got Texas getting the bomb and turning the course of the war. We've got a great ending of Jake and Hawkins and the bomb on a plane about to be shot down by fighters... I loved that. And the Texas jets to the rescue!

I'm glad Hawkins survived, just in case another network picks it up. I gotta say, first half of S1, I could barely keep watching this show. But it really turned into something cool. You will be missed.

How did I not notice Stanley and Mimi getting married? Well we usually tune and start talking whenever those two are on screen. Who married them? When did this happen?
