Only because you've done a great job with this, I'm going to ask a very minor nitpick. Are you going to include the fillet between the saucer and the "sled" portion? It looks like your version already has the saucer slightly embedded, so it could accommodate it easily.

137th Gebirg: I understand what you mean, that chamfer is on the saucer, not the deck under it. I'll think about it. I may be able to implement it, but what I have built closely matches that outline at the mo.

Rebuilt the impulse block - much better now, and scaled correctly. Added the aft sensor pallets and some TMP-style docking hatches, because this ship lacked them. Started detailing on the forward part of the platform, and yes, those are forward prob/torp launchers. At this scale, it sits (I think) nicely. But comments welcome. Deviations will happen due to the scale of this hull. She is no longer a small ship. Other details and minor bug fixes sorted.

That would make her in the same size range as Defiant but smaller. I like what you have done with the ship so far. Still has that STIII look and feel.

i have that Galaxy class so I will be rescaling my current Oberths (both Metlesits and Bridge Commander converted models) to your scale.

I will be one of the first to grab your models when you release them. It looks like you are using a TMP color palette also

It's a great model of the Galaxy - so many of Meltelsits' meshes are :-)

Yes, I have plans to release my catalogue of Trek ships. Where and when? Not sure yet.

Oh yes, I am using the TMP colour scheme on this build, it's the same scheme I use on all my TMP/Movie era ships. Keeps the fleet consistent.
 
I have the Galaxy models from Marc Bell, Alexander Klemm and Chris Kuhn also. The latter I have managed to get as close as possible to canon colors using a palette from Andrew Probert that i made into a Photoshop swatch. The trick was getting proper RGB values for certain colors as the US FS standards have changed and been renamed over the years.

As for your TMP ships they look fabulous and will look even better in Daz3D. It is my understanding that in order to reduce reflections while filming the Connie was repainted overall flat white for TWOK onwards. Again chatting back and forth with Mr Probert was educational especially for the overall TNG palette. That's why I have chosen to work with either Dave's or Chris' models.

Dennis Bailey's TMP Constitution is very close to what you are achieving. I have that model also and it took considerable tweaking for it not to look too bright overall. In Daz3D you can adjust reflective surfaces in the "surfaces" tab. I've managed to get his Connie to look as close as I can get to the screen bearing in mind that what you see on screen is largely due to the lighting effects as Mr Probert helpfully pointed out.

I always thought that the Grisson/Oberth looked too small and that scaling it up as you have done is the only way to make it fit within the size guidelines. Making it smaller than even a runabout makes no sense and even the brief appearance in the battle of Wolf 359 and Sector 001 it's small size can be attributed to camera angle and distance.

Size matters will always be controversial as canon sources differ radically same with the Defiant. Even the revered Galaxy class has often had a length of 1000 meters.

I've chatted with Andrew over the years about the TMP Colour palette. He was very forthcoming and helpful when it came time to apply those colours. Getting the TMP "shine" in 3DS Max was a pain in the ass, but achievable in the end. And worth it. I ignore the colour schemes introduced in TWOK and used until TUDC, because it took away from the beauty of the Starfleet ships (IMOO).

I used to have DRB's Constitution mesh. It was very useful when I was building the original Ingram back in the day, helped with colours and shapes. I lost it along with all of my 3D stuff back in 2019. I have my own Connie now, and I'm reworking it (or will eventually).

Officially, the Oberth is 120m long. Interestingly enough, it was Andrew who set that scale. TBH, that scale makes the ship almost unworkable. I've played with the Oberth a few times, done a rationalised version, and also done something called the McCaffrey Class to make a workable ship from the idea. Scaling her up? Makes sense. I should add that I have now "thinned" her out in places so she's less of a chunky ship, but retains the right look. Means I've deviated from the outline, but at this stage, I knew that would happen.

I hate this idea that Science Ships have to be tiny. When you start thinking about it logically, it makes no sense. You want to maximise the number of labs and sensors you can. It has to be long-range, and it has to have decent crew facilities in order to work. Tiny ships? Oh yes, that one science lab they have on 120m long ships trumps what heavy cruisers have... makes me laugh.

I think in my original brief I'd suggested that the Oberth might not have been designed by Starfleet directly, but by one of the shipyards they have at another Federation member planet. Hence, it has a very different look and style. I think when I come round to the write-up, I'm going to run with that idea.

He he, I use a T6 Oberth with a TWOK styled crew in Star Trek Online. Kicks bottoms.

Officially, that's correct. But this project is about making it actually work, hence scaling it up from 120m to 250m - so it's not canon, but it will be workable.



And other news: Small niggle with my potassium levels - it's 2.8 - needs to be above 3.5. The threshold for hospital admission is 2.5, but we're talking about me with my complex cardiac problems. Seeing the team again today. They may admit me, which means a pause on this project. Not happy about it, but physical health always has to come first.

So more as and when.
