Morning (just) - today's offering -

Still some things left to add and do, but... She's 98% done. A few panels to still add, and the self-lighting system and rig, plus a few minor details. Very happy with how the USS Raleigh has turned out. No, she's not a one-to-one recreation of the refit Discovery, but she's definitely a sister ship.

More later when she's done, taking a short break for lunch, and then I shall finish this one off!

Comments welcome, more later :-D

Heh... I have a lot of favorites ahead of that one. It's not a bad design to me, per-se (as I mentioned earlier, I much prefer the "prototype" version with the shorter & thicker nacelles) and I'm not a big fan of the 32nd century upgrade they did to it. It's just not towards the top of my list.

Now, I would love to see your treatment of the Akira and/or Bozeman! ;)

Both the Akira and the Bozeman are interesting ideas (adds to list of possible future projects). And... I respect your opinion on design ethos.

Orthos of the Raleigh -

What's different? A logical approach to the design. Windows to decks, as opposed to just having windows where you logically couldn't (why do they do that?). A reshaped secondary hull allowing for more internal space. A redesigned saucer with a bigger middle ring - again, allowing for more internal space. Phaser banks have been placed at logical points on the hull, as have torpedo launchers (forward and aft). I've removed the impulse engines from the saucer, as they are overkill. The 32c ethos is a little bland to be honest, but still has it's charm.

Still have the lighting rig to do, and then this one is done. But orthos are easier without that rig.

The USS Raleigh NCC-325107 has 18 decks, and a length of 750 meters. She's been fun to build - look out for the finished model and beauty shots, they are forthcoming. After that? I'm going to have a little more fun in the 32 century, and then take stock of things.

More soon.

I love the Discovery, and the Raleigh has every right to call itself a sister-ship. Your adjustments make sense, and you'd really have to look for what you changed. Which is a complement, because it means it is still recognizable and compliments what we saw.

Thank you :techman:

It's hard when there's not a lot of ref material publicly available. The Raleigh is a Crossfield Refit, but it's not the Discovery. I grabbed what I could screen wise from the show and from the model used in STO - although there are differences between the two. No doubt due to the game model having to be lower detail than the show model. But, looking at the various 32c Starfleet ships they are spartan on detail. That doesn't mean they were done on the cheap, or low detail because it was easy. Looking at the USS Voyager-J, the USS Le Guin, and the new Constitution Class - they are not simple designs put together as after thoughts. They have a different sort of complexity in style and ethos. I'm looking forward to imparting some of those ideas into the Sulu Class USS Excelsior NCC-322000.

Taking stock; a quick look tells me I've done 16 different models Trek wise, with one pending. TMP - Excelsior, McCaffrey, Oberth, Odysseus, Oldfield, Sutton. TNG - Ambassador, Delphis, Ranger, Windrunner. DSC32c - Crossfield Refit, Sulu (pending). Shuttles - 3 TMP Types, 2 TNG Types. I've got a further 3 study models (Titan, Dauntless, Nova). That's just the Trek work. On top of that I have four projects of ideas of my own, ranging from a cargo ship and it's shuttle, a flying saucer (with a full interior), a folding winged stealth ship, and a fixed wing bio-ship. This is all since April 2022.

I'm not in danger of burn out . I should be, lol, but at the moment things are good . It is something I need to be mindful of with the autism. I think... The Sulu Class is my next project, and then I am going to take a proper break for a few weeks. Maybe take December off. Come back in the new year and tackle some other ships and ideas that have been suggested :techman: My therapist has suggested I start a blog where I can put all my work, Trek and non-Trek. But I don't want to divide my attention too much. I'm fine here, you guys and gals are cool.

Anyways, waffling again. Time to shut down for a few hours, read a book and relax. More tomorrow :)

A more refined study model for the Sulu Class -

She's currently 653 meters long, with 22 decks. But that's going to change; going to make the saucer wider, so the length will change, but not the number of decks - basically going to put a little Ingram into the design, but still visually make it recognisable as a successor to the Excelsior Class.

Comments always welcome. More later!

I love those nacelle pylon mounting angles. Not sure if there would be a "real world" purpose for it, but it rocks, aesthetically. Completely bad-ass.

Got the idea from the 32c Constitution Class. I have a feeling that at the time these ships are being built a lot is about the aesthetic, and because "they can" rather than it serving a purpose.
