Jayru (JSnaith's) 3D Trek

i know you're still tweaking and building it, that it's all a work-in-progress, but I was wondering if you were going to add any more 'advancements' to the design?
Many of the 32nd century vessels sport separated hull configurations, not simply just the nacelles. Will you be applying that kind of idea to this 'built from the keel up' modification to the old Crossfield-class spaceframe?
I would worry that if the saucer wasn't lashed down it'd go spinning off into the black, 32nd century floaty science or no.

I'm more of a fan of the "prototype" version that we saw in the first DSC teasers with the smaller nacelles, if I'm honest. Different strokes, an' all that...

Whoa, what a blast from the past! Had to search my own archives to confirm, because I had almost forgotten this myself, but I actually created this graphic way back in 2016 when the very first Discovery teaser came out. Interesting that this still exists on the internet. Looking back I still can’t get over how wild it was that they released this early teaser with this kind of amateurish CGI. But yeah, there was something appealing about this design. Although I came to like the series version more …

This was all I had to go on for this …

Then later I came up with this bridge diagram, after staring at the first trailers and set photos for hours, looking for clues …

Somehow Voyager-J works with floating moving hull parts (the nacelles angle up when jumping to warp). Jumping a thousand years into the future really changed things up with a fresh ethos.

Awesome stuff!

I'm debating whether the Raleigh will have a windowed bridge or not. Doesn't seem to be a feature of other 32c ships. If I do a windowed bridge, that floor plan of yours will be very useful! Awesome stuff, really :-)

I always loved that neck join.
It's a PITA because of the yet to happen cut-outs for the rotating sections. But... I signed up to do this, and am still enjoying it, so on we go...

More later folks.

Those are beautiful illustrations, Michael! I had no idea they came from you. For what little you had to work with at the time, you definitely seemed to nail it. So wish they stayed with it.

First, nice concept for a 32nd century Excelsior. No detached nacelles?

The nacelles are looking better in the second version, I agree.

I strongly prefer this design...as the pre-spore drive incarnation of the Crossfield class. I hope we get to see it in action at some point.

Thank you.

The nacelle group is detached from the hull ;) But the individual nacelles are attached to the pylons.

Still not happy with the nacelles on the Raleigh, so expect more pics of newer versions, lol.

As do I.

Have you started adding the aztecking on the 2H or is that texture some kind of mesh artifacting?
It's just weird shadows at the moment. I'm using basic shader options to improve render time. I'll alter that later when I get more of the ship done :)

More later.

^ Very nice work on the nacelles! Love the glowing stripes. By the way, are you purposely not recreating the rabbit tooth windows the ship has on the show? I feel like they are such an integral part to the overall look of the ship. :)

Thank you! Those early days certainly were an interesting time. People scrutinized every pixel of footage that came out, trying to figure out just what this new show would be. One of my favorite moments was when someone (can’t remember who) figured out that the bridge of the Shenzhou was actually on the bottom of its saucer. And that was when all we had was a couple of quick shots of the bridge and maybe a blurry flyby of the ship. Ah, good times.

Do people still remember this leaked footage from some alternative VFX studio they considered when the show got into production? It features what looks like the early teaser version of the ship, but with a – to my eyes at least – much more pleasing presentation than what we got …

What a blast from the past! I remember that indeed. It is a lovely design. The ship that never was. The work that went into it was amazing, and the detail... Then the change of direction.

The 32c refit does not have the "rabbit tooth" windows - externally at least. The sets still make use of them though, go figure. I've gone with the 32c versions for the Raleigh as that what it is, a 32c ship -

Coming along nicely indeed!!! The nacelles are looking great!
Thank you!

The nacelles bothered the heck out of me, hence the multiple re-dos on them. There is a possibility that the Raleigh may be finished tomorrow. If not, the day after certainly. I am leaving myself provision to do a hanger bay, and a windowed bridge. I don't have much in the way of ref material on 32c Starfleet shuttles, but I'm sure I can knock something up. But that's something I can come back to.

I'm looking at starting the 32c Excelsior style class, USS Sulu NCC-325200? Or maybe call it the USS Excelsior NCC-322000? (The last few ships named Excelsior did not carry the reg number over, so no A, B or C). I'll mull it over. Toss a few ideas around gang, see what this collective can come up with.

More soon.
