James Cameron's Avatar Sequels Possible Titles Revealed

Really? Literally no one in my friend group that is into movies is talking about this. Hell, I already forgot I saw this trailer before Dr Strange this weekend.
I saw lots of "this will be the most beautiful movie ever" and "this will change the way films are made forever" type of talk all over Twitter. This always comes before yet another James Cameron mega hit.

Yeah but that's Twitter, no one takes that serious right?

Looks gorgeous as expected but also not surprising if you invest enough money and time ( and they really took their time with this one).

I'll probably watch it in theaters once because this is one you have to see on the big screen but i'm not expecting much in way of story or good surprises.

I'll check it out once there's something to check out besides a VFX showcase.

I'm one of those that actually liked the first movie and didn't mind that it had a simplistic story (so did Star Wars!) and appreciated that they put WAY more effort into the background world building than they really needed to.
I mean it's not like James Cameron has a poor track record with sequels or anything, so I'm sure it'll at least be entertaining. That said, I'm not exactly chomping at the bit for more after 13 years. We'll see.

This is going to go exactly like the last 2 Cameron movies. Opening weekend will be ~100 million. People will say it's a flop. Then the second weekend will be 85 million, 75 the third, and the drops will continue to be tiny as the movie racks up the cash.

Yep, this is exactly the way his films always go. Everyone predicts they will flop and then they break box office records.

Meh. People may love it. It may be the biggest movie of all time. I still can’t be bothered to care. The first one was all style over substance and this one looks no different. I’ll wait until it’s on Disney+.

Remember James Cameron doesn't do what James Cameron does for James Cameron. James Cameron does what James Cameron does because James Cameron is James Cameron!

Avatar is one of maybe ten science fiction films I really care about as science fiction films. I don't know if there's been another since, other than Ex Machina.

Which part of it is "science"? It's about as fantasy as Star Wars IMO.

For me the original Avatar (in IMAX 3D) was a visceral immersive experience (still unsurpassed) unlike what I've experienced watching any other film, including my all-time favorites such as the original Star Wars.

While the textual story was straightforward, though not bad, on a metatextual level Avatar was a great success; I'm quite certain that the film was intentionally structured so that viewers experienced psychological states deriving from their immersive experience in parallel with what the main character experienced as the avatar. Pulling that off demands artistry of a high order, and the degree of realization was staggering compared to what previous films had accomplished. It's not cracking my top ten or even top twenty films of all time, but it was clearly an incredible milestone, a historically important and unique film with many would-be imitators but no equals.

It's interesting that what's been released for the new film is essentially a teaser trailer in the more traditional sense. We're given a brief glimpse of the film with no real idea what it's about. That strikes me as a refreshingly confident move.

They’re watching it on their phone instead of a movie screen.
This is what makes me laugh. I'll guarantee you half the people who criticise this when it comes out will have watched it on a tiny laptop or phone screen with mono sound. Probably on a bad stream. "urgh that sucked.."

But why do so many people have such a problem with Avatar? Like if you didn't like it and it wasn't for you that's fine. But 13 years on why does it still have so many haters, who still have to tell EVERYONE whenever it's mentioned, annouce to the world how they didn't like it and use that boring old "Dances with Smurfs" thing. Yeah the aliens are blue... and? Is that even meant be a critiscim?
I always think of that Mean Girls quote/meme "Why are you so obsessed with me?"

I know that happens in a lot of fandom, but Avatar especially seems to get the brunt. Is it because it made so much money? In real life too I notice it, esp among men. As if it's cool to say it sucked. "It may be the biggest movie ever but I know better than everyone and I say it sucked!"

Like Pirates of the Carribean, Fast & Furious, Mission Impossible, Harry Potter are all big franchises that make big bucks I'm not into or interested in. Maybe seen one of each and don't care about seeing more. I don't have to shout to the world about how I disliked them when a new one is released. I'm just not interested.

I'm just so bored on focus-on-negativity fandom now, I actually don't want to look at too much discussion and promo for this movie, as I know is it will be so full of toxic negativity throughout.

Anyway... loved the trailer. That theme at 0:13- is beautiful. Watched it on my 65" TV on the YouTube app, and if it looks that good on there how amazing is it gonna look on 3D Imax.
I'll be there release day, regardless what the moaners want to say.
