it's SNEAKERS!

Well, we just watched Sneakers last night (Gattaca tomorrow night) and I hadn't seen sneakers since I first saw it all those years ago. This is a pretty good movie. I never have been a fan of Dan Akroid, but I liked him here...This is probably my favorite Robert Redford character, and Sydney Portier is great too..in fact the entire cast is good, and the showdown between Redford and Kingsley is well built up...

River Phoenix really is a lost talent. I think that kid would have had a great career had he not been lost at such a young age.

If you haven't seen this movie (i won't spoil it for you) you should. Its a scifi movie, I guess, but its one of those that could happen tomorrow. Its about what lengths a man will go through to accumilate power, even if he thinks his reasons for doing so are for the better. And, today, in 2010? I would love someone to wipe my mortgage off the books with a simple button push...

I really liked the characters in this movie, they are well rounded, and seem like REAL people. Mary McDonnell (from nuBSG) is pretty witty in this movie. Has she been featured as the babe of the week yet in the GENRE babe of the week forum? I mean, really..Sneakers, nuBSG, ID4..that shoud qualify her for sure..

Sneakers...on my scale of 1-10, I give it an 8+. Any movie with Darth Vader is well worth admission!!!

Great movie. I've seen it several times over the years. I really enjoyed the story. This is probably my favorite Robert Redford character too (as Martin Bishop). The casting director picked a great supporting cast as well.

I've always been a fan of Dan Aykroyd. He was particularly funny in this movie as "Mother" because of his propensity towards conspiracies. I loved the back and forward interaction between him and Sydney Poitier's character (Donald Crease).

Sneakers is one of my favoritist movies ever.

The interplay between Redford and Kingsly is wonderful. I agree with the above poster that the casting was very well done.

Weren't some of the writers/producers also involved with Wargames (another great movie)?

And what do you want?

Peace on Earth and goodwill toward men.

We're the government. We don't do that.

Not sure I would call Sneakers "sci-fi" per-sey, but I will agree it's an awesome movie. I'd highly recommend it to anyone.

Two other great actors/roles: David Strathairn as Whistler and (in a great cameo) James Earl Jones as Abbot.

That last scene, the "negotiation" is great. JEJ's delivery of "All right. Tahiti!" makes the whole movie.

In answer to a question upthread: Lawrence Lasker, one of the writers on this movie, wrote WarGames.

This movie is classic!

I thought Robert Redford and Mary McDonnell made a nice couple. And this movie is one where you can hear Dan Aykroyd babble about conspiracies--just like he does in real life.

I just checked Amazon. The DVD is going for $5.98 right now. I think I'll order a copy.

Engaging encryption for transmission to GTVM.....

Sneakers is the best Mission Impossible film ever made. A lovely, fun film with a fantastic cast.

"A computer matched him with her? I don't think so."

And my favourite line.

"I cannot kill my friend." Turns to goon. "Kill my friend."

I really should get it on DVD, had it on VHS but got rid of most of my tapes now.

yeah, there were some pretty good lines in that movie. I love that dinner scene with Toboloski and her...very funny stuff...and Akroid's paranoid conspiracy theories were pretty funny too..

Absolutely! An excellent flick. And I'm surprised that no one has mentioned the soundtrack, which is topnotch. Branford Marsalis with some very tasty sax work!

They probably dont consider it SCIFI..well, Robert Redford did. And, at the time it was. But maybe now it isn't (though, I think it is)
